Russia invades Ukraine - 3 - from 23 Oct 2022

Great video from Katz, dealing with a very important yet thorny issue.
He makes a distinction between victory and peace and that without a negotiated settlement there will be no lasting peace. He also makes the point that there will be no negotiations with Putin. I agree with those points. Where we differ is that he defines a military victory as the Ukrainians taking Moscow and forcing a complete surrender of the government and capitulation of the russians on their terms. I see a Ukrainian victory in this war as Ukraine liberating/regaining all occupied land along with the consequent destruction of the russian miliary that that would entail.
This is the Ukrainian POV: Those are the (publicly) stated war goals of the Ukrainians and what they have defined as a Ukrainian victory in this war. Whether that victory will entail taking the fight to russia in their own territory in a widescale way is another matter. I don’t foresee Ukraine making a push for Moscow. The united international community stand behind them as they are fighting a defensive war to rid their country of a brutal and illegal invasion. I don’t think that support would continue if that became an invasion of russia itself.
Making a change of regime in the Kremlin or a breakup of the russian federation, or any other political consequence, as a criterion for a Ukrainian military victory is, by Katz’ own terminology, related more to the outcome of a long-term peace not to a military victory.

there have been rumours of this for a while but still shake my head at the thought of it, the heartlessness and the incompetence

Another good post about the effects of winter
Winter Will Change the Rules of the War in Ukraine. The Ukrainians Are Better Equipped Than the Russians to Take Advantage of General Winter. | by Sylvain Saurel | Nov, 2022 Medium

The US has deployed a 2nd carrier strike group to Europe. This is the first time that this has happened since the end of the Cold War. Seems like assets are being placed into position in case of further Russian escalation.

It is erroneous to make a change of regime in the Kremlin or a breakup of the russian federation, or any other political consequence, one of the criteria for a Ukrainian military victory. By Katz’ own terminology, these outcomes are related to the question of a long-term peace not to a military victory.
As to the future re-invasion theory if there is no negotiated settlement to this war - I would think that the consequences of the loss of a large part of their army and having been ejected from Ukraine after suffering such debilitating losses would mean russia no longer capable of invading anyone for a very long time.
Interesting video. Mentioning of a wall.

Lol. Actually isn’t a fork. It is a trident. Or a stylized diving falcon. Or a symbolization of the holy trinity of God. Or a dove. Or the number three.

There is also a theory that the creators of the modern design intentionally included the four Cyrillic letters that create the word «воля», which means “freedom” or “Will” in Ukrainian.
