Russia invades Ukraine - 6 - from 7 August 2024

Hungary is the standout in blocking EU financial assistance to Ukraine, it’s also the EU member which consistently breaches EU democratic laws. EU funds have been withheld from Hungary for clear breaches .
Hungary is also the most anti Ukraine EU member and uses its voting power to thwart EU assistance to Ukraine. IDK why it is so anti Ukraine, when others aren’t.

Russia will win at this rate if they can keep it up for about 800 years.

Russia’s economy is very very strained right now and the situation at the front is shifting in Ukraine’s favour. Russia just doesn’t have enough in the tank to conquer Ukraine. They could take another 50km of territory this year and still be a decade away from achieving their smallest goals.

Our resort is absolutely packed with Russians in the 20-40yo age bracket. I’ve never seen so many here before. Surprised Vlad hasn’t cut up their passports and compulsory acquired these folk for his meat grinder

There’s a lot of very ugly recent history in Hungary, as Victor Orban has taken control of what had been a thriving democracy and turned it into a corrupt oligarchy.

One fun example was his close ally and man who Orban had bequeathed a billionaire fortune was caught up in a financial and legal mess elsewhere in Europe. Orban privatised the state welfare system and handed the profits to his mate to get him out of a jam.

Hungary is one of only two countries in Europe to continue importing oil from Russia, 2 years after agreeing to phase it out. Orban blocked NATO admission for Finland and Sweden. He has blocked numerous funding packages to Ukraine, along with blocking numerous sanctions on Russia.

Basically, Orban is a Russian backed dictator within the EU and NATO organisations. Hungary wouldn’t have gained entry to either with the current state of things. He is the mole and uses his influence to block as much anti-Russian action as he can get away with. Orban is blocking free and fair elections, which is putting the rest of Europe in a predicament of pushing Hungary out of the EU or twisting his arm in the hope of reversing the slide.

It’s not the rich kids that are fighting

Do you (or anyone else) know what the provisions are for expulsion from the EU? Seems more and more where this may end up.

It has that vibe. But then the EU loses any chance of bringing Hungary back from the brink.

Don’t see how that happens with Orban there and given he was just re-elected… either the elections are rigged in which case, he ain’t going anywhere, or he’s popular in which case his stances aren’t against the will of the Hungarian people… and he ain’t going anywhere.

A count of the vehicle refurb plant that Germany has built since the start of the war.

  • 100+ Gepard SPAAGs
  • 130+ Marder IFVs
  • 90+ Leopard 1 tanks (and some other vehicles based on the Leopard 1)

According to Wiki, there is no process for outright expulsion. Article 7 provides for suspension, including the procedures . Suspension can involve denial of access to EU rights, including finance and voting rights.

This is true right now, but much depends on the casualty rates for Ukraine. They’ll run out of combatants before Russia, if Russia keep calling up conscripts. Unless the casualty rate heavily favours Ukraine. Maybe even if it does. 1000km is a hell of a long front to defend. Particularly with having to keep a mind on the Belorussian border as well.

Which, in part, is what makes the breech into Kursk so intriguing.
