yeah, my time gets consumed enough with this thread, but it’s the best thanks to the wide perspectives and contributors.
As a man-child, he would love to but he knows he can’t for many reasons. He is doing it to cause concern, divide (that’s backfiring), and make ppl focus on something else instead of the primary objective of his multiple attacks.
He wants to weaken other economies, create uncertainty, and make corporations decide to move more operations to the USA in order to avoid the ups-and-downs.
Given the size of the US economy, and the so far fragmented response from the rest of the world, they may just succeed - except for the raw materials. That’s where the wistful gaze to Canada and Greenland comes in, as well as Ukraine. He also hates Trudeau and our liberal attitudes, and he’s petty and vindictive.
The result has been an unprecedented level of cooperation and preparedness from the federal gov and the provinces (except for Smith in Alberta, she’s almost MAGA ); the have been researching and preparing for this since Nov 7. Additionally, everyone has been boycotting American products at a grass-roots level; many have cancelled plans to vacation to the US. The conservatives, whose leader is seen as maga-lite because he has copied tactics and rhetoric, have gone from a 20 point lead in the polls, almost assured of a crushing majority in the upcoming elections, to now even with the Liberals.
So, in practical terms, a takeover of Canada is unfeasible. But he would be happy with just disruption and chaos.
Politically they know if Canada was another state, even if subdivided to get more favourable demographics, it would increase the number of liberal districts and senate seats which would ensure that republicans never (or for a very long time) have a majority in the house and senate - but maybe Trump doesn’t care about that scenario as I truly believe that his behind the scenes advisers are contemplating the total control of the electoral system and prevent any credible challenge to their control of power through gerrymandering, voter suppression, and maybe even direct intervention.

The quicker Europe re-arm and properrly organise themselves the better and faster any “peace” deal Zelenskyy can commit to with Russia…
But I’m not at all feeling safe or in any way confident this will all end well.
