I struggle to comprehend Hungary’s stance on RU. This is the same mob that invaded Hungary in 1956. Although I am old enough, l don’t remember a thing about this invasion. Nor do l remember the Hungary V Russia water polo game for gold at the Melbourne Olympics. Apparently there was plenty of blood in the water and it is a wonder the game was completed. I am just thankful that Hungary won.

Like you @Captain_Jack , I can’t understand Hungarian sympathies towards Russia.
I’m putting it down to Stockholm Syndrome. Where Hungary have been under Russia’s repressive yoke for so long in their past, that they live and long for it as something akin to the ‘good old days’.

I doubt the majority of Hungarians have the same view of Russia as Orban has.
While they are very conservative, most would not have a deep liking of the Russian state.
That being said, they also don’t really like Ukraine either.

The Russians have invested heavily in propaganda and influence activities in Hungary. They effectively countered Soros pro- democracy work and installed this right wing faction. That’s where the fascination of western right wing with Soros comes from; a spillover effect.
Fortunately, it seems like the population is getting tired of their ■■■■, and might lose the next election.
