Good question. I have often wondered the same thing. While I can only speculate, maybe some of the reasons for going public may obviously be a selection or combination of:
- The psyops value to improve domestic civilian morale.
- The psyops value of shaping international opinion favourable to Ukraine.
- The psyops value to degrading enemy civilian morale.
- The values of 1., 2. and 3. outweigh any perceived or real drawbacks of making the new weapon systems and its (general) capabilities/specs public at this time.
- They may already have been tested and are in limited use.
- The russians may have already gained knowledge of the new systems from hacks/leaks or spying and/or may have already captured prototypes or working examples.
- Drone systems are iterating so quickly that by the time this drone platform is in mass production then the next iteration with even better capabilities will already be undergoing testing and being produced.
- The weapon platform is already judged to be or has already been found to be, so far ahead of russia’s capabilities to stop or produce countermeasures, it is time to publicly gloat about it while there is a window of opportunity. Which is helpful for one’s own morale and state-of-mind…
