Is their coaching stereotypically Russian?
It's either the Australian Oly team archery or pistol shooting coach that is Russian and by all reports they're a cruel ■■■■■■■ lol
He's pretty demanding. Training is very structured and he places a strong emphasis on form. But he doesn't push them beyond their physical limit. It's all about gradually building capacity. Must have conditioning (say in a Russian accent) We're very lucky. He's the former WAIS men's high performance coach and the AIS have approached him several times but he doesn't want to live in Canberra.

All their coaching of younger athletes is based around developing a wide skill set before starting to specialise in one particular sport
Their athlete coaching is also a lot different to the Western world as well. They go to uni to become say an ice hockey coach, and control everything including the strength and conditioning programs
Also reminds me of a story about a middle aged American guy that went to a weightlifting seminar in the US hosted by some Russian lifters/coaches. Paid $2000 to get told his technique was horrible and he should regress to wall squats (stand up against a wall facing it and squat basically) for 10-12 months lol

When I do wall squats my legs get tired after about a minute. I reckon I’d cramp badly after 10-12 months in that position.
It's not really a case of WADA not having resources - it's a case of Countries federations and possibly the world federations colluding to keep results private.
I think the Spanish courts wanted to destroy the blood evidence from "operacion puerto", if IRC. They're a bit of a doping country.

To play devils advocate: the Jamaicans do have a fairly poor recent record of failed tests by their sprinters, and their testing regime domestically is almost non-existent
I can’t remember if it was the WADA boss, but someone high up gave the Jamaiican anti-doping a fair old spray

He came from nowhere at 20-21 to the world’s best at 22-23 and a massive whack of his training partners and team mates (Collins, Powerll, Marvin Anderson, Chambers, Yohan Blake) he’s had have been rubbed out. And as EB said, Jamaica have never done off season drug testing.
Every single other one of the top 4-5 fastest guys in history (Powell, Blake, Gay, Gatlin) has been done.
It makes zero sense that one clean guy is absolutely blitzing all these dopers by as much as he is. Zero.
You can keep holding onto it and be shocked & surprised when he gets done.

Completely different era. Those were the days when training methods made a difference and would elevate someone with natural talent. Home remedies were used, no one knows what was in them.

Asafa Powell’s drug violation was and is a joke.
Another typical WADA effort of being overly heavy handed on what they knew was both unintentional and non performance enhancing.
As for Bolt, he won the world junior 200 as a 15yo (youngest ever) in a time of 20.51 and he holds the 6th fastest 400m for a junior ever.
He only really started focusing on the 100m in his early 20s. Until then it was primarily the 200 and 400 and he was outstanding at both.
To say he ‘came form nowhere’ is just wrong.
It’s a slur on Bolt until it’s proven. If every record breaker from this point on is to be treated with suspicion then we’re in a dark place on sport and should probably give it away.
