What’s the logic of a massive decline in membership making a difference? The AFL doesn’t let clubs go under. As far as I understand it, it’s not like an NFL or MLB club where the owners hoover up the profit, so nobody’s making serious money out of it. If people like the prestige of being in charge of a football club and they don’t care about winning, why would they care if it’s not as well supported?

A decline in membership or attendance is more likely that the club chases sugar hits rather than do the hard work.

There was a play in the third quarter where Jye Menzie was chasing Wanganeen-Milera out of the backline, and Wanganeen-Milera looked like he wasn’t even under pressure. He saw Menzie and just went “aww, that’s cute”.
It made me pine for the days of Alwyn Davey Sr or Walla. Even if the chase wasn’t that realistic, even if it was a sort of token effort, players panicked.
Also, on Menzie, I’d be putting him in Gresham’s role (whatever that is) and putting Gresham in the VFL. Menzie tries. He may be limited but he tries. Gresham has fallen off the steepest cliff of anyone at Essendon this season. He’s an absolute liability at the moment.

Been saying this for years, Dodorro has be fixated in recruiting boys with perfect backgrounds and from “good stock”. Private school boys with polish and can be the face of your next marketing campaign. You know, kids that have never had it tough or had to fight for anything. Perkins and McGarth couldn’t be more like this style of player.
I joked with a mate last week about Durham, I nicknamed him “The Prototype”.
That’s who we should be basing future scouting on, not McGarth types. It got Richmond multiple premierships going the “Durham type”, if we didn’t get lucky, Durham would be running around in yellow and black now.

Yep all the defending of this club we’ve done and gone through as fans… we lost, we’re the losers, there’s no defending that can be done as theres nothing left but fading memories of a time long ago when it had a meaning or purpose to be a bomber fan rather than just embarassment, disappointment, anger and inevitable acceptance that there is no reason ti think it is ever gonna change
if the coach can’t do it, why should we ?
at the end of the day, it’s the coaches neck on the line when all those things don’t produce better results, so why as you point out with all that extra help do you pick the exact same players, that haven’t learnt or changed much if anything ?
he is the one continually picking poorly skilled players, who have mostly gone backwards development wise, who miss easy shots at goal and make simple mistakes.
What has scott done to actively change any of those issues ?
oh made a speech about afl lifestyle, which has results in a 2 week pre season training camp that only 14 odd people out of 40 attended. yep real change right there.
These things get the Chinese whisper treatment pretty quickly.
for most it’s not a hobby they can easily detach from, it’s been a part of their life and one that died in the 2010s or dies over and over in front of them each year, I think we’ve seen the great breaking point where the majority of our fans no longer can abide and it’s going to get wild

thats probably the biggest issue our list has, we have to play triers who are not up to it, or players with talent who dont try.
