Sean Murphy - fitness muggins - well… bye

I didn’t know you were Penny Wong.

Is it weird that I have more confidence in Hurley’s body than Hooker’s?

Zaka and Bellchambers mighn’t be in our best 22 at the minute. Heppell will still be around. Hooker and Hurley will be gone but their replacements are well on the way.

And keep in mind, it’s not about the age of your list. It’s about the age of your cream.

Our lists prospects are fine.

Fair enough just feel that we wasted the talents of those guys I mentioned and now probably won’t challenge for a flag for at least 4-5 years

Which may be when the AFL season resumes.
So no worries.

I’d be ecstatic if we pinched a flag within ‘4-5 years’

Yeah strangely enough I don’t think it’s the end of the world that we will lose Hooker, Hurley, Daniher, McKernan, Bellchambers in the space of one or two seasons. We still have a fantastic young midfield/flanker core who can make a top 4 team with the right gameplan.
Pinch a gun KP forward from FA or trade period to add to reasonable KP/ruck depth and we can still have a decent sized premiership window.

An example of what our spine could look like in 3 years:

FB - McBride
CHB- BZT
3rd tall - Francis

Ruck - Draper/ Bryan

CHF - Ben King
FF - Gown
3rd tall - Stringer

Harry Jones says hi!

Ben King? Hmm, I reckon we go for Cameron, if Daniher goes. Although Ben King has age on side, but unproven.

Zerk and McBride say hi…

pinning our hopes on a full back and full forward who are yet to play a game. YIKES

We just have to be smart about player recruitment. I’m very confident that the Rutten/Caracella partnership will produce a more sustainable brand of football. The other component is recruiting players, be it draft, trade or Free Agency, that fit the system. That’s where List Management and the coaching have to be hand in glove. It’s early days (and one game) but Townsend and Cutler look to be great signings.

It is a view in 3 years. There will be blokes in our best 22 then who haven’t played yet

Not pinning my hopes on them. Was just an example that we can still piece together at least an ok spine when all those guys leave us. Replace JD with a marquee talent like King/Cameron and join with a set of up and coming KPP (including Gown, Harrison Jones, McBride, BZT, and any one else we draft on the next 3 years). Dodoro’s KP drafting is elite. You know he will fill the spine with players at least at an ok level.

The biggest take I got Murphy from the podcast last week, was that he had to hold the team back from over training. I am not sure why, but the perception for myself was that we weren’t fit enough. He is teaching them now to train smarter.

The other great take was that he has given them responsibility to train properly in this absence, rather than trying to micro manage. Empowering the players I think is a good thing.

Teaching the players how to supervise themselves is helping them to become more self contained and that has to be a good thing in many aspects not just footy.

Woosha said that year too. I think the response was - “why are we paying him to coach then?”

Bit different from “players having to keep themselves in shape” to “players need to coach themselves”
