Sean Murphy - fitness muggins

We can only hope.
But he can leave the iPad behind

Agreed. We need a change in this space anyway. I sincerely hope we’re reviewing this department but actively looking to recruit replacements at the same time.

I don’t see Langford or Ridley as being anything other than bookish and diligent throughout their careers. But they now have a history of breaking down regularly so the pattern has been established and is harder to break.

We broke Reid - he probably never had a body that could withstand any sort of loading to begin with. Should have been more careful with him but the pressure to win and get him to a point where he could play and train at a high level would have over-ruled the realities of his frame.

Redman not sure.

DONATE TO THE FLIGHT PLAN

Lets just throw a bucket load at Darren Burgess.

Did anyone watch AFL 360v? Redman was on and he had an interesting stumble when talking about the injuries.

Kind of said that the injuries on the left of screen weren’t preventable and then stumbled a bit on his words because it kind of indicated the others were??

How did this guy survive the reset. Even Dodoro was moved on…

Was Draper’s injury on the left or right of screen?

Left

No idea. But even if they found that nothing was wrong with the process……surely we’re looking to improve and get the best we possibly can? Don’t know how they can determine that sticking with Murphy would be the way to go.

Not only does Geelong have a team of bigger body type players than us. But their conditioning in core and legs was in stark contrast to EFC.

The legs & core of players of similar stature to Merret yesterday surprised me.

EFC really need to look at the long term conditioning on our players.

But the iPad says he is doing a great job

In the end though, you are relying on the players to put in the work off the field

Too many of our players don’t. Look at the majority of guys who have been in the system for years, there is almost no size at all on them

So whose injuries kind of were preventable?

Look at the AFL nowadays. Many just sit on video games when not doing anything.

As a general rule I think they consider all soft tissue injuries as preventable. The ones that aren’t preventable are the collision injuries (e.g. Ben McKay getting his foot stepped on) or a freak accident like Jones.

From my experiences with restructures in the past, they generally start at the top, and then work down from there. This is primarily to let the new hire pick their team.

To explain - the Board would have accountability over the CEO and Head Coach role (CEO also input into coach). The CEO would then have choice for his GM. The GM would then have choice over his list manager, head of performance, etc.

In other words, even if Barham hates Murphy, it’s not his decision to make

So the timeline was

  • the Board fires Xavier and Rutten in August 2022
  • the Board hires Scott in September 2022
  • the Board hires Thorburn in October 2022
  • the Board fires Thorburn in October 2022
  • the Board hires Vozzo in November 2022
  • Vozzo restructures in August 2023, Mahoney departs the GM role in August and Dodoro is moved out of key role and Rosa is hired
  • Vozzo hires McPherson in October 2023
  • Vozzo finally pushes out Dodoro in August 2024

So it’s on McPherson to make a call on Murphy. Maybe the decision has been held up because it took so long to move Dodoro on

Football department spending would be the reason.

What’s McPhersons claim to fame?

How about we actually go and get one of the best out there rather than just a warm body?

He is probably on one of those dodoro type contracts that means you can’t fire them without getting burnt at fair work
