Just our first victim for season 2016. Nothing more.

When Crowley savages Ablett, and Ablett gets suspended for striking him, and we win, the media will go full Fark Carlton over the AFL's favouritism towards us.

Unfortunately that will over-shadow the Goal of the Year (HAMS contested clearance and trademark kick while still in the air, Smack chooses to tap it to TIPPA rather than mark at half-forward, TIPPA runs through tackler and gets it over-the-top to Conor deep in the pocket for the Irish snap.)

Daniel Currie is a experienced VFL Ruckman - backup only.

Aaron Hall dropped…
3 weeks ago we was being spoken about as a Brownlow smokey. Ridiculous.

They’re saying due to poor defensive efforts last week, must have been pretty bad as would be top handful in their b&f for sure

Hall is a poor player defensively - Visible stats are only one part of a players game.

They are a shambles at the moment.

Lots of players will be looking for an exit at the end of the year.

They are going to have to accept the first club build failed. Go back to the draft and try again. The buying star players and topping up with kids hasn’t worked.

Maybe there’ll be an extra Disco on the Gold Coast this coming off season

I’m only surprised it took this long to happen. GC encouraging promising players from football states to move to Queensland into their zone. Prediction of AFL response: “we did a cursory investigation and there’s no official notarised documents that GC encouraged the move, so it’s all fine.”

An Esperance teenager, who has been compared to Brisbane great Michael Voss, will today use one of the biggest stages in junior football to stake his claim to a top-10 AFL draft position.

But Brad Scheer will be playing for the Allies, rather than Western Australia, when the combined under-18s team takes on Vic Metro at Etihad Stadium.

Scheer, 17, is one of the brightest junior stars in the country who has twice returned a carnival-high 17 contested possessions in his five matches for Queensland and the Allies.

And he appears certain to become the first member of the Gold Coast academy to be drafted to the AFL.

Under the complex bidding system for academy talent, the Suns may have to give up multiple picks to gain the required points to retain Scheer.

They appear willing to do that after making a long-term investment in the teenager four years ago when he and his family moved to Queensland to join the AFL newcomers.

Scheer’s departure before turning 14 meant he could not be registered by WAFL club Subiaco and enter the draft system as a locally produced player.

“He is a bloke I’d want on my side in the trenches,” Suns academy coach Andrew Raines said this month.

“He reminds me of a big-time player. He will win you a game.

“If you need a stoppage from a clearance or from a centre square he is going to be one to throw himself on the ball and get it forward.

“Or he can go forward and take a big pack mark and kick a clinch goal.”

It was that trait that was evident early in Scheer’s junior career for Esperance club Gibson and the key to Gold Coast’s bid to recruit him in 2012.

Scheer was only 13 at the time but Gold Coast, armed with their seemingly bottomless AFL war chest, were an attractive option to a star junior looking for a fast track to the top of the game.

And there was little risk in the Scheer move, according to Esperance football figure Michael Harding. Scheer’s father David was a skilful wingman who played 200 games for Gibson while his uncle, Murray, played five league matches for Swan Districts during their premiership era in the early 1980s.

“He won the 14s and 16s fairest-and-best awards in the same season,” Harding said.

“He runs all day, had great skills and was incredibly hard at it. Anyone with half a brain could see that he was going to be a very good player.”

Two years ago, David Scheer was delighted with his son’s progress when he became, at 15, the youngest debutant at QAFL club Palm Beach Currumbin.

David Scheer said his son had “a foot in the door” with Gold Coast and had benefited from his involvement with the Suns.

“They actually get to train at Metricon Stadium and use the facilities and interact with the players,” he said.

“He has his foot in the door with the team now because they can pre-select him in the draft.

“Brad came here with a few goals and at this stage he is well ahead of schedule.

“Since the move he has been jumping every hurdle and he seems to be clearing them by quite a margin.”

■■■■ the academies completely unfair

And in 3 years he will be back in WA after seeing what a ■■■■ hole the suns are

Maybe Good coast and Brisbane can equally distribute their players so their equally ■■■■.

Prestia having knee surgery and won’t be back this season.

Does anyone still want him

2 years ruined by injury.

Richmond can have him.

Jesus Christ, how many talented mid are they going to wreck with their medical “system”.
