As Vanders said, once they go on the senior list then it all falls under the cap. And there is a maximum that a player can earn on the rookie list. They probably front ended his contract as much as they could this year then move him to the rookie list and have half his wage outside the cap but obviously the lower wage.
Regardless of this Tippett thing, I do hope Sydney’s list goes belly up and they spend a big chunk of time down the bottom of the ladder. With Geelong and Hawthorn

I’ve a sneaky feeling they’d get drafted before the rookie draft, just between you and me.
Making sense why we thought about cutting and rookie-ing someone like Baguley.
No penalty? Tippett was suspended for 12 odd games, Sydney received trading sanctions for at least 3x draft periods and were stripped of the COLA arrangement. It was as they had doped their playing list.
What sanctions were they?
