If the rumour is true (and God I hope it is) would the AFaiL actually allow it to come out? Somehow I doubt it. They’ve offered Stephenson up as a sacrificial lamb (and given him a token penalty - he can still play finals). Everything nicely tidied up for optimal optics.
Don’t believe the rumors but if any clubs players are dumb enough to get caught up in gambling and spotfixing its the Mensa society at Collingwood.

Same would go for Beams scenario and sitting him out for season over smacking them for salary cap rorting.
Pies simply make the AFL too much money and that is king to all their decisions. That and brand protection.

The Beams story has a stink to it.
If Eddie paid off a Beams Debt, they’d be done for a massive salary cap breach. Maybe the biggest ever?
Is it a coincidence that Beams has withdrawn from playing and Eddie has been MIA when usually you can’t flick the telly on without seeing his mug?

I don’t honestly know the answer but IF Eddie has settled his debts I wonder how much difference it makes that it wasn’t a legitimate betting agency. If he is settling a bet with some criminal is there any paper trails is it a salary cap issue as this type of stuff is quite prevalent from what I hear. I knew several blokes at SANFL level even that had debts settled by team mates or board members. There was even some chatter that Gibbs had his debt settled by a couple of players and officials at the Crows

It’s a big if. I would be amazed if somebody like Eddie was dumb enough to do it. But the rumours are $1mil. Virtually impossible to do without some trail. Anyway it’s all just fun rumours. I wouldn’t actually wish it upon them.

The first question that comes to mind is… how many other clubs are the AFL covering up for by offering up Collingwood as the patsies.
The whole betting thing makes me quite angry. They know it is creating significant problems in the community, and yet they still take the money to put it front and centre of almost everything they do.
Drop the betting agency advertising and promotion of odds all together. It’s immoral.
