This honestly smells like internet bullshit to me but if it’s not the AFL will not announce anything until the last possible second because they will not want attendances to fall off or for the run to finals to be upset/overshadowed.

AFL wouldn’t be able to sit on it. If they found out about it but let them continue playing the remaining rounds there would be hell to pay as any team who played Collingwood should have been playing the VFL team instead.
