Imagine another game postponed for us.
The article makes it clear:
Had Sidebottom’s phone not run out of battery early on Sunday morning, he would have been able to organise a lift home.
Because clearly where ever he was Sunday morning (presumably Wells’ house,) there was no GPO\usb socket available to charge his phone… and neither Wells, nor whoever lives with Wells could have lent him theirs.
Don’t you need your phone to order an Uber?
had sidebottom not been a selfish dumb fuc*head, he would not be in this situation
THAT’S what it should say. fk off Morris you absolute bottom feeder
Last time I checked, there is a train station in Williamstown which Steele could have used to get closer to home.
Just like an Uber, I doubt he would be allowed to use it under AFL guidelines, but he clearly didn’t care about them.
But he’s our moral compass that guides us through these times …,
As much as the double standard upsets me, we can’t spend a week complaining about the insanely harsh treatment given Conner, including demanding media apologies, then be outraged that the media gives more reasonable treatment to the next player facing a covid suspension. Isn’t that the outcome we would’ve wanted?
Also time served in DHHS self isolation counted as period of suspension.?
Do you really believe the media are being kind to Sdebottom because we were upset with their treatment of Conor? It’s more that it’s a blatant case of double standards.
Its the like when a “decorated player” gains immunity, like how Ablett hit 3 blokes in the head in successive weeks last year before they rubbed him out.
There have been lots of examples of it over the years. Nowhere is it more evident than when a player is the putative leader in the Brownlow votes.
Because clearly where ever he was Sunday morning (presumably Wells’ house,) there was no GPO\usb socket available to charge his phone… and neither Wells, nor whoever lives with Wells could have lent him theirs.
Ever had a flat Google phone in a house full of IPhone users?
Ever had a flat Google phone in a house full of IPhone users?
I’ve had a flat iphone in a house full of non-iphone users.
I borrowed one of their phones, called a regular fkg taxi rather than messing around with uber, and went home.
No I don’t believe that for a second, but we can’t have it both ways.
Good point. Still doesn’t explain why he couldn’t have borrowed someone else’s, and as @Wanderlust pointed out, he would have needed a phone to arrange the Uber anyway, so clearly he had access to a working phone. If instead of calling an Uber he called one of his teammates he was allowed to spend time with, they could have taken him home.
Not going to lie, I hate footy more and more with each year passing. If I didn’t love essendon as much as I do I would just walk away from the game completely
The AFL is all about money, they couldn’t care less about anyone’s welfare
The media will pick on the weaklings who they know won’t fight back, but cower and go soft when one of their favourites or those with A bit of power get into trouble
The blatant hypocrisy by all the media is downright disgusting. They don’t even try to hide it anymore, becuase why would they. They never get called out on it. It’s just a big circle jerk
An ex player has come out and said he was called chimp, and there hasn’t been a big song and dance about it. Just quickly swept under the rug and moved on
They can all tongue punch my fart box
Last weeks dying 70 meter penalty to almost help us ■■■■■■ a win and now sidebottom might be rubbed out for a Covid breach?
I think the AFL might be into us again!!!
however what it does prove is how weak our club has become, we negotiate nothing, we just roll over after being whacked on the nose and beg, “please sir, belt us some more”.
Interesting that you have that perception. There is soon to be a vacancy for AFL CEO and there are rolling vacancies for positions on the AFL Commission.
No doubt several club CEOs would see themselves as aspirants for the job and several club presidents would like to get onto the Commission. So they would probably try not to anger the AFL Commission in any way, in fact quite the opposite, they might want to be perceived as “collegiate” ( aka compliant) and aligned with the commissions goals.
IMO its problematic, and those potential career paths may not not serve clubs interests well. But the existence of those pathways potentially makes life easier for the AFL.
Covid breaches, out drinking, found on the street the next morning and having to be driven home by police. That’s not a great set of events. I wonder if Collingwood have a ‘no alcohol during season’ policy?
I agree, good post, …please leave my bottom alone tho.
The credits in the bank thing should actually work the opposite in this scenario. As a senior experienced player he should be setting the example, not only to his teammates and other AFL players but also to the public in general. His blatant disregard for the rules means the book should be thrown at him. 6 weeks I say.
