Apparently they were playing Alicia Molik.
Eddie’s comments just show that you can’t be a club president and hold a high profile footy media job. He works on radio and for two tv networks getting paid to comment on issues yet when it comes to his own patch he’s completely tongue tied.
I just reread Eddie’s comments: "That rule book is not, ‘How do we get around every rule?’ That’s the rule book you live by and if you don’t like it, we’ll arrange for you to go home. I think that’s fair and reasonable.”
Bye bye Nathan.
So can someone explain how you inadvertently play a game of tennis?
“Oh no, this isn’t a tennis racket… it’s a guitar. See, I’m pretending to play Iron Maiden”
Drugs involved?
so FIGJAM must now stand for Fark I’m Good Just Ask Molik
They “inadvertently” played against a player of her quality, who is clearly outside their bubble, and they didn’t know they couldn’t?
Eddie was clear that the AFL gave a very good list of what is right and what is wrong. I would have thought that telling you not to have contact with people outside your bubble would include playing tennis with a professional tennis player who isn’t part of the Collingwood football club hub was a fairly obvious situation.
TBH I’m surprised Collingwood didn’t sign her up asap as some sort of short-term contractor (coaches’ trainer?) before all this came to light, making her part of the bubble. Maybe doing so would have cost >$25k.
Hopefully, she was a consenting adult, can’t be too sure with that piece of ■■■■
but but but she was on the other side of the court, that’s a full 15 meters away
How did they explain that they thought Molik was “inadvertantly” part of their hub?
If Buckley and Sanderson played against Molik on Friday why do they only have to isolate until Sunday? That makes no sense.
AFL: Pies fined $50,000 for tennis game
By Anthony Colangelo
Collingwood football club has been fined $50,000 (half of it suspended) after coach Nathan Buckley and assistant coach Brenton Sanderson played tennis with Australian Fed Cup captain Alicia Molik and one other at their Western Australian hub.
Tennis is allowed inside the hubs but it cannot include any unauthorised outsiders.
The news the day after Collingwood President Eddie McGuire called for those who broke the rules in AFL hubs to get sent home.
So I guess Bucks and Sanderson are going home ten Eddie.
God he is a tool.
the headline looked promising but the first 5 words of the article prove it is a hoax.
These guys would want to get Pendles back ASAP.
No composure without him when the heat is applied.
If they don’t win at least 2 of their next 3 (they should), then I doubt they’ll make it to the 9.5 wins required to make the 8.
Taberner kicked four, and it wasn’t against us.
This season really is weird!
This is a very underrated comment. Well done, Sir
The idea that Bucks should stand down is laughable. Why would any club weaken their position when the AFL penalty - and it seems fair - was a fine. That would be like us saying to zach merrett, look we think you better sit out another week as you might’ve hurt that sausage silvagni.
Also, Bucks must be a reasonable player as Molik would still play ok.
