Season 2020 - Collingwood

I still reckon despite the purge that they are good enough to make the 8 again. It’s still a pretty decent best 22 and they’ll likely pick up a few players via the draft or delisted free agents who might be around the mark.

What they have done though is certainly shuffle everyone up the queue a fair bit now, so they’d want to have a good run with injury or they could really fall away pretty quickly.

FB: Jeremy Howe, Jordan Roughead, Isaac Quaynor
HB: Brayden Maynard, Darcy Moore, Jack Crisp
C: Chris Mayne, Taylor Adams, Josh Daicos
HF: Will Kelly, Brody Mihocek, Will Hoskin-Elliot
FF: Jamie Elliott, Mason Cox, Jordan De Goey
Fol: Brodie Grundy, Steele Sidebottom, Scott Pendlebury
INT: John Noble, Tyler Brown, Levi Greenwood, Josh Thomas

I still can’t believe the contract Grundy was given while all this was coming to light.

Apparently they’re bargaining with the AFL to have Beams contract pay out not included under the salary cap but under the AFL’s “medical payout” allowance.

Merrett should tell pies, Dogs, blues, Port he’s coming to them next year as a free agent.

let them all clear cap space etc then sign on with the bombers on last day of free agency with multiple offers in front of him.

would be comedy gold.

migth be one of most hated players in league though.

They want to get out of paying their own players so that they can target other clubs players? And AFL will let them.

Yeah this is a really interesting one. If there is anyone here who knows the ins and outs of AFL contracts I’d be intrigued to know what the rule is if a player does say a foot injury that’s so severe that forces them to retire or is diagnosed with a heart condition that forces them to retire. If they still had years to run on their contract is it standard practice that the payout is included in the cap our outside the cap?

If it is permitted to be paid outside the cap for these kind of situations, then it’s intriguing what the rule for a mental health condition such as Beams would be. If we are treating mental health just like any other anatomical condition as we’ve been encouraged then it would seem out of step if it were treated differently wouldn’t it? But I’d be concerned that it could potentially be open to abuse.

The whole premise of this though is dependent on my first question.
Are payouts for retirements brought about musculosketal conditions or even systemic conditions paid inside or outside the salary cap?

I know there are different rules for free agents. In that case everything needs to get paid inside the cap regardless. Let’s assume the player isn’t a free agent.

Isn’t it if injury related to prior trading then it can be outside of cap.

very similar situation to Jonathon hay / Nathan Thompson…think that is what got them to change the rules around trading and whats included in salary cap.

I’d love it if Beams could get back on the park, but that isnt even a option. He’s retired gone. Maybe Collingwood will get some sort of deal with the AFL, to ahve part of salary outsdie of cap.

I have time for NB and still give him some credit for fronting the media more since trade time than Mr Everywhere. But he said that trade day was the worst of his football life. This is from a situation entirely of CFC’s own making. Bux has experienced so many lows with the Pies and he is saying a trade day which they actually planned for by backending contracts is the worst of the lot. How can you run a club intent on that kind of misery?

He also seemed to say they needed a rebuild given they only got to a semi-final. Puts our position in perspective!

Gerard Whateley to Nathan Buckley SEN:

“Jaidyn Stephenson & Adam Treloar have had their say. Did you actively drive them out of the club?”

NB: “Yes we had to.”

They absolutely farked up with inviting salary cap pressure and kicking it down the road until it came to a head this trade period. And I think their approach of going to ground publicly and not explaining things to their members was really poor.
I listened to the interview this morning and as usual I thought Buckley spoke very well.

As I said I admire him facing the music but he is losing a bit of gloss. I didn’t hear the whole thing but @Aceman 's quote above is not impressive. Saying the AT decision was swung by Treloar’s wife moving interstate doesn’t help either- sounds almost designed to get him offside with the club.

I give Buckley credit- the players play for him. He always seem to get a total buy in from the group. Be very interesting to see if this whole thing hurts that aspect.

The line of them wanting to get into this draft is laughable.

If they trade up, they’d be hard-pressed to get McInness, wouldn’t they? I wouldn’t think 14 and 16 would be anywhere near enough to get one of the top 3.

I wouldn’t complain if we bid on McInness. ■■■■’em and the dirty old camel they rode into town on.

If they trade 14 or 16 and their future 1st for our 8 they still couldn’t get 3 IMO

But they would have a pick ahead of McInnes and then their 16 + whatever other scrap picks have left would be absorbed if/when bid came in at 9-13 or so. So bring in two top end players now.

There is some serious discord in the two versions getting around about how Treloar was booted. Bucks has one version and it is not too similar to Adam’s. I get that they didn’t get their maths right, so someone had to be shown the door, but the way in which this exit has been handled is an utter disaster and a disgrace. The Pies have made Treloar the one to carry the can for the sh!tfest they have created. Bucks says it hasn’t done anything to the fabric of the club, but l am not buying it. Players at training will be looking around at each and wondering who is next. t could be any one of them.

I also found it offensive to Treloar et al that Buckley boasted that they had kept their “glue” players and only got rid of those that they didn’t consider important. Talk about kicking a dog when he’s down.

I am shocked that there are people on here that ever actually liked Buckley.

He has always been a self-important douchebag. Glad he is being exposed.

Fark him and Fark Collingwood.
