Of which the President still has pictures of Blackfaces and golliwogs in his private office allegedly
“We tried calling a black guy “ape” for 5 years, and we can now say with complete confidence that this is not the best way to go. Pats on the back all around!”
eddie - what do you think of these reports?

So…is Varcoe the first aboriginal player to play 100 games for Collingwood?
GQ.
Surely it was Neon Leon?
Don’t think it was
This response will actually only intensify the pressure on him.
He would have been better to come out - be extremely contrite, it’s a sad day (not a proud day ffs), but we are committed to getting better, blah blah blah.
Coming out and saying “nah we’re not racist” while holding a report that says the opposite (a report you accepted all the recommendations from!) is certifiably insane
Btw our first indigenous player was in 1947. His name was Norm McDonald which is 30 odd years after us!
Only if a) you let anyone else actually read what the report says, and b) if anyone in the media is willing to hold your feet to the blowtorch about it. Which, given the footy media are implicated in this up to their eyeballs, isn’t going to happen.
Ahh the irony.
He has literally done, exactly what the report says Collingwood has always done and they need to stop doing.
Yep.
All the Vic clubs were, more or less, shockingly racist organisations in about 1980 or 85.
Some had flipped that by 1990.
Some took until 2005.
Some took until 2021.
Good edit.
To answer the deleted statement, though.
“I hope you write that you asked me this question. I’m not Aboriginal and if you knew anything about it you wouldn’t ask if I was part-Aboriginal because Aborigines will tell you there’s no such thing. You either are, or you aren’t. I was asked once to play in an Aboriginal team in the '80s and I said no because I didn’t qualify and (he laughs) one player accused me of not being a brother.”
Herald Sun have published the report and Robbo (i know, I know) is calling for him to immediately resign
And some are still working on it, with the final result a long time away
For once im on robbos side.
Report said:
What did the report find?
Titled “Do Better”, the report said that Collingwood’s response to racism had failed in many areas. It found:
- The club’s attitude to dealing with racist incidents was to “deny, double-down and deflect”
- Action taken to tackle racism was often done to protect the club’s brand
How did Collingwood just tackle the Report in their press conference? Didn’t he just deny, double down and deflect and protect the Collingwood brand
Link? Or cut & paste?
I can’t get in because of paywall but it’s linked on their front page. I’m keen to read it too
I posted the PDF link above.
