Vandermeer
Or he could be another prismall
I’d take the punt if the price was right
I didn’t see much to make me excited about Ugle-Hagen - Dropped easy marks, had a fit of the fumbles and struggled for fitness - It’s common for debutants to have poor games so lets see how he develops.
Had an almost game. If a couple of his marks came off he’d have had three goals. Tackled well and showed good kicking skills.
He looked good. Dogs have got one.
Exactly. Its his first game and he was getting to the ball fairly often. Once the nerves die down and he starts sticking his marks and crashing packs, hes gonna be a very good player.
Lost to Richmond, Melbourne, Geelong and now Swans.
Questions to be asked if they can match it with the top 4?
That’s enough of a sample size to ask the question now. I’ve been pretty bullish (no pun intended) on the Dogs but that form line against the better teams is a bit of a concern. They do have some serious talent missing due to injury. If they get Dunkley and Treloar back from injury in time for finals then they’ll look a fair bit better…
Is Stefan Martin going to come back at any point this season? I reckon he is as important to their set-up as anyone (well, barring maybe Naughton).
Teams are sitting on Libba now and depriving them of drive from the stoppages
Yeah the injuries are starting to bite big time.
They do have good depth, but some of Bevo’s chosen ins are exposed when there’s so many depth players against a well organised side.
Garcia, Weightman, Scott, Hannan Young, - any two or even three you might be able to carry, but add an inexperienced & easily countered Ugle Hagen and it’s no wonder their wings & forwards lacked width, defensive pressure or the ability to make the Swine think twice about their systems.
So a bit will depend on who they can regain from injury before the run home.
Treloar is doubtful.
But supposedly in 3 weeks they’ll have all of Naughton, Dunkley, Martin, and Wood available.
So we’ll see.
People forget, even with our own kids (e.g. Reid), players are 12+ year investments. Making calls this early, especially negative ones, are pretty laughable.
Dunkley available this week to play.
and yet the average afl career is only 6 years.
which always makes the comments about player x is still young, despite being in the system 4-5 years, while not really showing much, is odd.
The ruckman one is another, “oh they take longer” some do, some are good young and just need to play.
it’s also odd how people see it as an investment, and then think 4 ish years of above average football, out of that 12 is finding a great player.
You’ve misunderstood the use of the term average here.
This has undermined your entire argument.
Almost 70% of players don’t make 50 games - and that’s those that actually play at least 1 - not those who last 1 or 2 years without a senior debut.
Only 60% play even 10 games. Again of those that play 1.
So 4 out of every ten don’t even make it to the 10 game mark.
Think McQuillan, Gown, Crauford last year, Houlihan Mynott & Lavender the year before, plus possibly Johnson McBride Hird Durham Baldwin Brand Eyre this year. All failed to play a game and don’t register on most stats.
So the “average “ here is not a standard distribution curve - it’s very heavily skewed.
Those players who make it to 50 games have a better than 50% chance of making it to 100 games. And almost a 30% chance of making it to 150 games (which is a reasonable 10 year career accounting for injuries)
Add that players taken higher in the draft have a significantly better chance of playing more games - a player taken in the top 20 usually averages 100 games or more (leaving aside the apparent curse of Pick 6 - look it up)
So it’s absolutely true to look on a player taken Top 10 as a long term investment.
Whereas late picks & rookie draftees are just churned, and lucky to last 3 years on a list.
Toby McLean has done an ACL again.
SCANS have confirmed that Western Bulldogs midfielder Toby McLean has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
It’s a cruel blow for the 25-year-old, who recently made a successful return from an ACL injury in the same knee, playing three games at AFL level from rounds 14-16.
The injury occurred during a training session at VU Whitten Oval on Saturday morning.
McLean will undergo surgery later this week, before beginning his rehabilitation.
Horrible timing for him and the Dogs given he’s only just come back from a long term injury.
He got it just from grabbing a coffee at his local coffee shop. Jeepers.
Trade value gone down.
Can’t be expected to pay top dollar for a habitual Tier 1 exposure site visitor
The only coffees Dunkley should be getting are the ones he gets with Dodoro
Do we know Dodo wasn’t there? Has anyone seen him in the last couple of days?
