That was funny in that they came out and said it’s fine but we won’t tell you about the results
There’s a bit in there @Finding_Nino . Will be interesting to see what’s true and if anything comes of it
The Jamara allegation is insane if true.
AFL will conclude its investigation and order Gold Coast to hand over Matt Rowell and a first for Geelong’s future 4th.
I’m kind of surprised that Geelong have some salary cap breach…well, any more than other clubs. Because of their list build and overall situation:
They’ve got a long track record of picking up really obscure mature rookie nobodies and turning them into players…
Or picking up druggies pushed out of their old clubs, and trying to rehabilitate them back into functional AFL players…
My recollection is that Carlton pushed players like Tuohy and Henderson out the door because they wanted a hard rebuild.
Geelong cost-of-housing should have always been lower than other clubs. Geelong shouldn’t be under pressure to pay each player megabucks…
Maybe Jeremy Cameron cost a fortune. Maybe Hawkins…But there’s so much cheap rookie junk to offset it. Tom Atkins? Brad Close? Zach Guthrie? Jack Henry? Even Blicavs? O’Connor? Their back stories don’t scream $$$$ to me.
Maybe Dangerfield…
Maybe Chappy…
Maybe Bartel…
Maybe Scarlett…
Maybe Kelly…
Maybe Johnson…
Don’t get me wrong - Geelong can FRO but I can’t help but wonder if this has a similar pong to it as the saga. We did a terrible job of running a supplements program - like most clubs in the comp.
Geelong are finding ways to tip-toe around the salary cap - like most clubs in the comp.
I’d be very surprised if every single contract at Essendon was entirely above board with no external sweeteners thrown in.
Hopefully there’s full disclosure in all those Geelong Income Tax Returns
Which the AFL auditors can compel them to produce.
Hey mate, where did you get that info from?
Looks like J Cameron’s paddock with some lovely cattle
There are probably many deals outside the cap arranged on a handshake, or minimally documented, they most likely relate to some form of payment “down the track” and sometimes even outside the ambit of player management chargeable remuneration.
I have no evidence of it, but human proclivity for breaking rules, cheating and lying for self interest tells me it happens.
In particular Geelong has an often publicised players credo that they keep demands for higher pay minimal in return for team success. That just tells me that the likelihood of under the table deals at Geelong is increased.
Even Like the Jack Bowes deal - accepted less dollars spread over longer term contact…possibly under table deal there perhaps.
LOL. “Bringing the game into disrepute” AFL have 2 groups working at cross purposes in that respect. One investigates it, writes a report, the other sanitises it, tries to sweep it under the carpet, gets out the shovels, pleads with the police; " He is just a kid, a charge would ruin his career", and if none of that is possible because the press are running with it, find a scapegoat who is not a player.
Give they’re under investigation for payments in the past 5 years, I’d imagine the salaries of all bar 1 of the players you mentioned are irrelevant.
Oh- where is that limit mentioned?
If the AFL are investigating Geelong’s illegal payments for the past 5 years I bet they find a convenient reason to not include 2022.
the jamarrah gun incident is up there with hislop challenging lloyd to a knife fight in the windy hill change rooms
I think Reimers dog possibly bit another player too.
In that it is almost certainly complete bullshit?
Concur.
There are exactly zero (0) credible scenarios where a player holding a team mate at gunpoint doesn’t lead to an immediate contract termination and referral to the police.
