Season 2025 - Geelong

I think that’s 2 stories combined into one… my recollection of the chatter at the time is that Lloyd pinned Hislop against a wall and told him to pull his head in (maybe to do with drugs?) and in a separate incident Hislop pulled a knife. Both could well be utter bull pooh of course.

agreed, if someone pulled a gun on a team mate, or threatened them with any sort of weapon, I’d be flabbergasted if they werent immediately let go from the club or forced to play in the VFL reserves for the rest of their contract

wouldn’t they be in prison? Isn’t it hard to point a gun at someone in Australia and get away with it?

Not necessarily. It would be up to the individual who was held at gunpoint to pursue charges. But the club would be obliged (upon learning of what happened) to inform the police.

I still don’t buy this story. I know AFL players have a little more disposable income than the average punter, but it’s still hard to obtain a firearm.

In scientific fields it’s known as the Wayne Carey hypothesis (Also known as the Lance Franklin paradox). The level of talent is inversely proportional to the likelihood you will be held responsible.

For example

  • Get involved in a fight that leaves someone with brain damage, but you are a futue brownlow medalist. Nothing to see here
  • End up in hospital after taking too many persian rugs somewhere near the Bellarine Peninsula, but you are the premier small forward in the competition. Nothing to see here.

I would have written ”inversely”, but your theory interests me and I would like to read more.

P.S. The second last word is wrong.

If ■■■■ has been given the story by the AFL there is potentially something to it. They use her to condition the public.

take their premiership,

i remember their ceo going on about we’re a good club with good practices and would NEVER find ourselves in a drug saga

fixed!

Dunno about that.
There’s not that many hoops to jump through to legally obtain one.
Bunch of my friends from high school all had hunting rifles by the time they were 20/21.

If the AFL have fed it to their “communication specialists” there is something in it.

Could be mistaken but I read something about Selwood and 2021/2022 as to what was being investigated.

Handgun licenses are heaps harder to get and retain.

Apparently. Take the 2022 premiership off them.

Meanwhile Dank and the Weapon jumped ship from Geelong to Essendon.

Geelong should be investigated for that too.

If its true he should definitely be arrested.

Why does the AFL always keep this kind of disgusting incident out of the public. They should be the ones actively calling it out, getting on the front foot and justifying how unacceptable this is.

Optics…we must maintain the illusion that the fame is squeaky clean.

It’s always bemused me that the only players who have ever been suspended for breaching the AFL’s drug policy are lesser name players.

The AFL would have us believe that the big name players don’t do drugs.

Or players who never actually tested positive.
