Season 2025 - GWS

Flag favourites after yesterday. They are absolutely primed for it.

Pies were old/slow and witches hats too early to say Giants can win the flag imo

Giants were surprisingly very sharp. They still lack depth in the midfield which will be a concern in a long season and midfields are where flags are won. I’d like to see them win one if we don’t though, not least of which it will ■■■■ off the anti afl media in Sydney.

we really should pump them Anzac Day I think

You think so with guys like Durham and Cadlwell in the middle who are quick and Draper capable of winning a clearnce like a mid

Then on the outside Durrsma and Martin slicing and dicing

Interesting they mentioned on agenda setters that Jake’s skin folds were too high when he arrived at gws and that the first few session he struggled to adjust, and obviously has broken down and they praised us moving him on.
Also can we get the stringer thread open again

Not sure I agree with them not having midfield depth

Elite

Kelly
Tom Green
Callaghan

Next tier

Conglio
Beford - elite tagger
O Halloran
Ward

Cameos

Toby Greene
Stringer
Daniels

It’s a decent group of elite talent, an elite tagger, some hard nuts and some X factor.

Two of these were out on Sunday including their number one mid Tom Greeen and they coped just fine.

Which team has a better group than this?

I thought exactly the same but cnbf typing it out at the time. Thankyou.

Yeah i watch every giants game coz my mate in western sydney is a big fan, so saw Kelly and coniglio really struggling last year to keep pace. Kelly was really good yesterday, the best he’s played in a long time, coniglio was ordinary. Ward is also old and will surely have to drop off at some point, but was also good yesterday. Daniels is the type of guy that only plays one or two good midfield games per year, he can’t sustain it and is more a small forward.

Bedford is good, but is only a tagger. Callaghan and green are the only two A graders imo and Callaghan arguably wasn’t before yesterday, but had the potential to be.

I think you need 4 A grade mids to win a flag, they only have two and the other mids are pretty old now. O’hallaran is garbage by the way. Would be a whipping boy if he played for Essendon.

So that’s the regular senior mids, under that there is basically nothing in the vfl. The one guy i do like is leake, i think he’ll be a star of the competition, but he’s only 19.

I disagree about Kelly not being an A grader and I only had Daniels in as a cameo, although he is clearly on the up. I could add Jones to the cameo list.

If depth is needed, I think Toby Greene could transition to a full time mid and excel. Their forward line is stacked so it wouldn’t be a huge disruption.

But more to the point which teams have a better overall midfield group?

And who has the best in your opinion?

Sunday arvo was great.

I ■■■■■■’ hate Collingwood.

I think they are a monty. The best thing about GWS in their favor is, yes they had a pretty bad fade out in some finals but they dont enjoy the horrendous pressure and glare of the rabid footy media of Vic SA and WA, they are somewhat insulated from this in Sydney , so can put these demons behind them very quickly. I love watching them play when they are in full flight, Jakey will be a huge addition to them this year, He might still suffert fitness issues with his body but I reckon his motivation will be high to succeed this year, and we all know what his capabilites are . even if they get 6 or seven of his best games it will be a thing to see if he is let off the leash and fully fit for even part of the year

… is their song.

He was given way too much leeway at our club.
Treated like a superstar who could do as he pleased.

He never ran over 5K did he?

Hopefully a lot has changed, but I’m pretty sure Devon Smith and Dylan Shiel said the same thing when they arrived at Essendon (i.e. GWS trained much harder)

I have to lean to both options being true that Jake wasn’t/isn’t fit enough and that we don’t train as hard as the Giants.
If I recall correctly there was clip or article about Sheil when he arrived that said something similar that we trained less so it took some getting used too or something to that affect

Glad I wasn’t imagining that iam sure Sheil said it.
If we ever want to get serious as a football club we need a strength and conditioning head from another club like GWS to come and set the change not keep recruiting guys that were understudy to the head guy

Don’t mind GWS stadium after a couple of visits, it’s actually a very pleasant boutique venue.

Unfairly maligned imho
