I don’t think there’s room for Reid in the 22 against Hawthorn. Both Lewis and Dear are missing through injury, and we don’t have matchups for Moore, Watson, Ginnivan and Macdonald. I’m assuming Breust isn’t best 22, or is a sub.
Someone like Roberts will need to come into the 22 at the expense of an extra mid. I expect one of Setterfield (most likely) and Hobbs will play against GC, but there won’t be room for either player against Haw.
They may have to. The idea of Shiel, Redman and Prior having to each lock down on a gun small forward is a bit of a worry. I’d like to have Roberts there too as a backup if one of their smalls gets a hold of one of our small defenders.
If they go with Chol, Gunston and Ramsden, then we could play all of McKay, Ridley and Reid. If not, they may look to exploit or small defender depth and start Breust too. In that case I expect Reid will be the one to miss out.
We really are short a small defender who can lock down. Shiel and Redman are very suspect one-on-one, and Prior isn’t known for this either. Only McGrath is a reliable small defender.
This whole site was such a hawks love fest in the second half of last year it made me simultaneously ■■■■ and ■■■■ my pants which reminded me of Hawthorn which made me sick and I threw up and it reminded me of Hawthorn again. I’ve dropped 8kgs and in the best shape of my life. Thanks Blitz!
I feel like they are chronically over-rated. Sure they have some youthful exuberance, but I just cant see them repeating their run in the second half of 2024…I have them in the 5 - 10 range a lot lower than many of the experts predict
I suspect we will plan for Sicily to play forward against us.
They’re way tall in defence now with Barrass, Battle, Scrimshaw & Weddle.
Scrimshaw is suited to that intercept marking role.
Ridds on Sicily
McKay/Reid on Ramsden/Chol
Prior on Gunston
Too much love here, I’m looking forward to some bad news about them (not about Mas though). It’s a shame they’re looking so good, and bounced from the cellar to contenders more quickly than Essendon
I hope they narrowly beat Fark Carlton but seven of the players are subsequently suspended for dirty acts that got them over the line. The sooking and self-delusion would be great.
They are fast and they kick the ball well. That will cover a myriad of sins against ordinary teams, but they’ll get found out against teams that bring consistent pressure for 4 quarters.
Yep.
That’s why relying on kicking accuracy and being perfect has it’s limits when you reach finals.
You are more likely to switch to a kick to the contest, ground ball gets off the spill and take shots from there type of gameplan.
The Hawks also brought the ball up differently last night than against us. I suspect it was a tweak to their gameplan because of the way Carlton play, but they tried to handball through the middle at times. Last year, Carlton used the rebound off the backline as their way to win the game, I’m assuming this year, they are doing the same. Hence, Hawthorn shifting their gameplan to suit.
Premiership favoruites laughable what about Brisbane they are the ones who should be you know a team that acutally won the flag and are the defending champions.
