Concussion, I believe.
I heard the whole Merrett thing was a ruse to keep them tied up during trade week so they wouldn’t go after Petracca or Oliver.
Except they didn’t really go all in on Merrett, their effort was lacking, hence they missed out with an offer that was below market value.

I was watching him play, is he really any better than Prior? I really don’t get the hurt. I do with Voss however we could use him.

Foot skills are elite, so yes he is better than prior. Doesn’t do anything defensively but Hawthorn can cover that. However when they cant, he does look like a liability.
Swings and round abouts. What he has in kicking he lacks in physicality and height. Prior is also a good kick. Both are bottom six players in their sides.

I don’t think their effort was lacking, their integrity was. They played games with their negotiating strategy and it blew up in their face.

Agreed. I think they also assumed that Merrett going nuclear on the club would force a trade.
Giants just showed a clear blueprint at smashing these prix.
It’s a 1 game sample but I think coaches will have gone to work on playing against them when perhaps for the last season and half coaches have gone head to head with Mitchell’s gameplan and usually lost.
Will we learn and be ready for their response this week….probably not cos Essendon very rarely is.
But a game I didn’t think was winnable a couple of weeks ago has now very much changed.

its just so important to be with them at qtr time, they have the massive advantage of being match conditioned, last year we conceded the first 5 or 6 goals due to this then matched them for the rest of the game.

Last night they got better as the game went on. We’ll need to be on our game for the whole match.
True, hence why they challenge for top 4 and we challenge for bottom 4
I think all teams playing opening round opponents are going to face the same problem.

I agree with this however I’d rather he not play and be available for the rest of the season than bring him back only for him to ping it again. We need Kako for the whole season.
