My Prediction

I know we are all supposed to get excited by their rebuild but I still think despite finding some top end talent, there is a way to go. We know from watching GWS and GC start with solid drafts and good young talent that it isn’t a quick fix and the experienced players they have around them are just as important. I think they are genuinely four or five seasons away if they manage things well. If they don’t, they are North Melbourne away.

The backline performed ok last year and that probably comes from the fact that they have Miller, Balta (when not limited by the courts) and Vlastuin getting the job back there. Throw in Broad and Short and the backline itself is still pretty experienced and battle hardened. That being said, the process of bringing in young players will need to start soon.

The midfield is going to be good at some stage. Young players will start to find their feet and be able to perform at higher levels for longer. I think we are all curious as to what Smilie can do, Lalor if his body will allow it will spend more time through the middle. Prestia will prop up the rehab group for the majority of the season. Taranto and Hopper will regret their life choices whilst keeping the midfield relatively competitive.

The forward line is problematic. Lynch is still on the list although he is likely to spend most of his season hanging with Prestia. They did some good things last year at stages but seemed to run more on youthful enthusiasm rather than genuinely good forward line structure. They have a Rioli although not a good one, Lalor will float through. It is pretty uninspiring.

Nankervis is still a good enough ruck. Handy tap work and pretty productive around the ground. Had a reasonable season last year. He isn’t a champion but is certainly a good solid performer. The coach is different, certainly on the side of his players although some criticism that he may not be challenging them enough. I think he looks from the outside like the right man to guide a bunch of kids into AFL football and prepare them for when a more ruthless coach comes in.

Richmond are still a while off. They can bask in the glory of their recent premierships that you would think would buy patience from their fans although a lot of the bandwagon jumpers look to have started jumping off. They are a lock for bottom four this year and more likely bottom two.

They’ll be better but they are still 2 seasons away from pushing for finals.

They should improve over 2025, but it is a relative thing, as other teams will also improve, or just flat out be better.

Fark Carlton gave up a seven-goal lead to this mob lmao

Bottom 6, but improving. They play a decent style (whats a gameplan these days)

It wouldnt suprise me to see them finish 10-12 and over achieve a bit. They just have a group of kids who nobody knows anything about, but its talanted, and they will knock off a few teams when least expected

My word they were fkn atrocious last time we played them.

Missed Bolta a bit towards the end of the season, but gave them a chance to blood some more.

They are still miles off it, much like us. They did have a lot of 1st round picks the past 2 years so even if half of them Dodoro it, they still have enough talent to climb up the laddder

Taj Hotton is going to be a superstar

With 8 first rounders taken across the last two drafts, they are going to be a pretty enjoyable team to watch IMO.

And in 2025 Yze went from a timid coach with his training wheels on to finding his mojo and stamping himself on the group. You can see the players are playing for him now at least.

Will sail past us at a rate of knots, whether this year or next.

Why don’t these cashed up bogans just leave the car at home and get an Uber.

I’ve praised Richmond’s rebuild, but never thought it would be quick. The talls especially that they took in 2024 will take years of development.

One of their talls looks complete junk, name escapes me at the moment.

EDIT: Jonty Faull (had to look him up)

Looks like he will now be Myki Lefau because no more driving for you, champ.

Hahaha that’s quite good actually

Thank you for sharing me the embarrassment of asking who he was.

He’s actually quite a very good player.

Mature age recruit of Samoan/NZ background. Strong lad, nice hands and leads up at the ball carrier well. Either side of some terrible injuries that he’s had he has looked good. Kicked 3 in the praccy match on Friday I believe.

He’s only coming into his second season. I think it’s a bit early to judge a tall forward. But Armstrong does look the better of the two tall forwards they took in that draft at this stage.

I wouldn’t expect every pick to be successful. That said. He’s had 12 months in the system. You might be going a bit early.
