My Prediction
It just looks like a dark road for West Coast and fewer things provide me more happiness than their misery. Close to the worst, more entitled group of supporters in the AFL. Long may their misery continue. It is hard to know what to make of their ins and outs. Obviously the top two in CDT and Durrsma were highly rated but they have also traded in some real trash.
The backline loses McGovern but gains Starcevich. Experience wise they are ok unless he gets a head knock and then things get even shakier for the worst performed defense in the competition. Ginbey found his feet last year to give them something and Hough seems highly rated internally. Baker gets a ton of the ball when off half back but really it is unexciting and uninspiring.
The midfield lacks talent and depth. I am sure Reid has hit the track in great nick but he’s not the answer, at least not yet. He seems like a very good player even if when carrying a pretty large chip on his shoulders. They are still waiting for Kelly to repay some of the faith they showed when literally trading away their future. Another year of hoping Yeo returns to something like his best. Duursma will play a lot of footy in the guts this year.
The forward line is very average. Waterman looked like a footballer for a little while but since signing a better contract has become a lot less visible. Graham has been solid since coming across and they may have something in Long. It isn’t an inspiring forward line and it isn’t a hard working one. Will be a difficult watch for those who care. Suspect CDT will get a fair run through here this year.
CDT is the future in the ruck, they have Maric and Flynn as well. They are ok for talent and depth here in theory but not sure who they are hitting it to. The coach is also largely unproven and there isn’t a lot he can do to prove himself. The cattle just isn’t there.
I don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel for West Coast. They don’t seem to have drafted or traded particularly well. They lack top end talent and they lack depth which is an horrific combination of things to be missing. I can see a world where they are in a dog fight for the wooden spoon with Richmond but I think ultimately they win it pretty comfortably.
