Best I can do; had to edit to take out the names of others.
Haha, that’s clearly edited. Nice try though
And if it’s not edited. How sad that you would actually mention my name in… real life.
I pity you.
Your real name is Alex.f.94
Thank you, that is the nicest thing you have ever posted.
My one and only question directed to any perspective (or current) board members lurking in this thread.
In 2022 an external review was conducted and one of the recommendations was extra focus on reviving our ties to our indigenous culture and history, to that end Dean Rioli was added to the board (as per the review’s recommendation) as the clubs first indigenous board member, Paddy Ryder returned to the club as indigenous player development manger. On the playing front we saw Anthony McDonald Tipungwuti come out of retirement, we drafted the father son twins Alwyn and Jayden Davey, and the first Tiwi Island category B rookie signing of Anthony Munkara. They all joined Tex Wanganeen. This was an exciting time for the club as it appeared as a huge step in the right direction and and area we had lost our way.
Fast forward 2 years all but Alwyn Davey Jr are gone.
This has to be considered and abject failure and one I’m sure no one in the club is happy about.
What does the board intend to do, to address this failure to ensure future actions in this area have value, and build long term and sustainable pathways for indigenous people and our club both on and off the field?
Will the club appoint another indigenous board member, will a review be done to look deeper into why our Tiwi zone isn’t being fully utilised?
Because at this point everything done recently has felt incredibly tokenised.
The club hasn’t cared about indigenous talent since Hird came here.
How are we doing on indigenous women?
It would be nice to know why?
Anthony Munkara has put himself up for the draft after a good season in Darwin, hope he gets picked up somewhere.
Last I saw was that Paddy Ryder is enjoying himself living and playing footy on Mornington Peninsula. Dean Rioli is busy with so many Indigenous groups that he must be a shadow of his playing self.
Equally as bad
I’m not sure Munkara gets selected although I hope he does. Most of those blokes nominating are zero chance of getting on a list
That’s not true, there is often a pause around dream time about who they can get to pose in the jumper and be front and center for smoking ceremony montage
You can look at the club or you can see it as league wide issue…
The alarming decline in the number of male Indigenous players in the AFL will continue into 2025 as clubs are likely to add just two to their lists this week.
It will see the number of Indigenous players on AFL lists fall from 71 this season to just 62 next year after 11 either retired or were delisted at the end of the 2024 season.
It’s a league wide issue but we are the club that hangs its hat on the hat rack of past achievements when it comes Sir Doug Nicholls round. It’s time to put up or shut up.
To me the current situation presents a perfect opportunity to become leaders again at a time where leadership in the area is sorely needed.
I’m not sure what that means.
Well Sir Alex, @MelissaVernerGreen responded to me, and advised amongst other things, that it seems Paul Weston is a candidate as well.
I was responded to her on Messenger and in my incompetence , I pushed the wrong button to start a video call, Melissa responded on audio and we had an interesting conversation about the Board, the Election and her views on the future.
Melissa has won me over, and will get my Vote and that of Mrs Fox as well.
She said she would try to engage with BBlitz and will set aside time each day to respond to posts and to messages.
Screenshot or it didn’t happen.
I think it’s a problem far away from Essendon or football in general. I think you re going to see less and less indigenous players. Game is getting harder and harder.
Last night we just drafted the first AFL Iraqi player, and will probably draft a second generation Australian tonight.
It is what it is.
Rather than complain about Melissa’s lack of responsiveness, im questioning how much time I spend here…
It means we care about it at the wrong time
Ah, well I’d agree with that. It’s always very awkward for us around Dreamtime. Especially will be this year around.
Nope, not this one. I will try to send it as a message on the understanding it is not for public.
OK ?
