100% agree … very rotten indeed.
A far better real life comparison is the Duke lacrosse team from 2006. In case you’ve never heard of it its a very similar situation where they hired 2 strippers for a night out & sexual assault accusations followed. The 3 players were assumed guilty & labelled racist & misogynist predators & in the fallout they were kicked out of the school, the coach was forced to resign & the whole team was barred from the rest of the season. Then fueled by the public outrage a rogue prosecutor made it a political aim to try to convict the players. Turned out the accuser made the whole assault accusation up to try to extort money & eventually the players were cleared & got significant payouts.
I’m not saying these allegations against the Swans are also fake but its a great case to see how damaging it can be when the presumption of innocence gets completely ignored.
Its not a ‘great case’ you searched and found one, well done, now list some where powerful sports men got away with their behaviour because of their privelage and power - guranteed theats an awful farking ratio.
There was a ■■■■-tonne of cops/detectives at the hotel in the morning. Of course it’s going to be a massive story with lots of opinion. There are games every week with AFL teams staying in hotels and it never ends up with detectives in the morning.
This time it did. And with the DV stats the way they are, forgive the world for not being totally clinically neutral about “these boys have upset these girls enough for cops to be involved”
Anyone who has worked in an area that needs to unpack consent and how it happens and what it means - I have - knows that “four slaps instead of three” (which is suggested as the version of events meant to prove it was mild and not assault) is very very significant in the context.
People are saying the context of sex work permits (or lessens the impact of) this slap without consent. Such an approach is actually the opposite, i.e. it’s more in the direction of “you’re an object, cos you take money for this kind of thing”, which is the exact wrong direction for being ethical about sex work.
If you can’t do consent for a slap you’ve got some issues.

See…this is what I’m not seeing.
Which apparently some people are.
What I’m seeing is five…friends…workmates…getting shitfaced and hiring three strippers. And getting caught.
And as a result, understandably, the wedding’s off.
Apparently things went badly on the night. It’s definitely been reported to the police, and there seems to have been accusations of sexual assault. By one or perhaps all three of the women.
I haven’t seen anyone call any of them a rapist. Not here or anywhere else.
And nor should they be.
Edit: I have definitely seen people make assumptions of the women, though.

I don’t disagree, but how is that relevant? We don’t know if the players are innocent. We don’t know if they’re guilty as hell. We don’t even know the exact severity or circumstances of the alleged incident!
Really, we know nothing beyond something is alleged to have occurred.
You don’t go “the accusations are true more often than not, let’s just assume guilty”. Just as you don’t go “these girls are likely lying since it involves famous people and the accusers are just woman”. Both are wrong.
What should be done is we wait for actual facts to emerge before deciding anything.
I’m intrigued by foggy’s suggestion of a defamation case.
As far as I’m aware, and I’m sure this could be quickly corrected, none of the three women has made a public announcement.
We know an engaged man hired three strippers when he was out of town and his fiancé left him with prejudice over it.
Being a ■■■■ ■■■■ does not make you a rapist.
But not being a rapist doesn’t mean you’re not a ■■■■ ■■■■.
Think Foggy could be refrring to one of women’s lawyer who made inflammatory remarks on 3AW. lawyers should know better.

It appears as though will be no case to answer
The commentary online now is that the situation could take a turn in the reverse as an extortion attempt by the girl(s), video footage taken sneakily etc
And given the end result for the player (s) who have been defamed does that go against the girl(s), their lawyers public comments or the media etc
@wimmera1, can you please refrain from being a toxic mob.
Strippers try to get cash out of famous men shock!
I thought engaged blokes going to the strippers with their mates was a thing
Ladies of the night won’t have the coin to pay any damages or fines. Might be free slaps handed out.
It happens.
But that shouldn’t be your starting point.
It still is, it keeps a lot of people in work and well paid.
Starting point is let the police etc do their work. The court of public opinion is a real problem
Has anyone who has shown any empathy toward the women involved in this situation, either due to their own life experiences or because of the data that suggests this is a failed process before it begins, ever called the players guilty?
Have I missed that?
But Geelong have a Cotton On store still available, and he’s nominated them.
