Interesting take. The VFL team is out of the media and to be honest, I know very little of what’s happening there… Is it that bad?

Our latest draft picks seem to have done ok?

In a nutshell it does appear that ‘the club’ for reasons both mystifying and bewildering effectively sank our then very decent VFL list during the pandemic by effectively leaving our players in limbo and forcing them to seek certainty with other VFL clubs.

Clearly a choice was made.

A very short sighted choice which will likely continue to have ramifications for the senior men’s program.

Standard Essendon really.

This should be priority 1 of an external review. How this was allowed to happen is a deadset scandal. Set the development of young players back years.

Give us the external review we need or risk seeing our young blokes burn out or walk out.

No doubt. Obviously they let contracts expire to avoid payments during Covid uncertainty. But it was a short term view, and the fact that they left it so late to get going again is a scandal.

I’d like to refer everyone to a thread that was created back in July 2015 called do we need a rebuild. Do we need to rebuild? - #57 by dambuster

Sugar Winton at the time listed what he believed the bones of our team would look like in 2018 (See below). So these were the players that were going to take us forward. Fast forward 7 year, the club has actually performed a re-build (partly forced and partly not), but the thing that is very clear is that our list management and recruiting has been pathetic. Until this is fixed, we will not be competitive.

Fair enough. FWIW I bloody hope I’m not right… I don’t want to die without seeing us win another final.

Don’t worry about winning a final. I’d just be happy to see something, anything from the club that made me proud to support them again.

Every single aspect of the club is farking amateur hour and the gutless, inspid, beige standard of football we peddle… it’s downright embarassing.
