Only reason fans enjoyed 2016 is that we knew the players were coming back the following year
There is no way fans would enjoy watching 2016 every year
Thank god for the likes of Walla,Parish,Fantasia,Daniher it was the only reason that kept me watching every week. 2016 was putird and i couldn’t wait for the season to end
Or maybe it says the board is clearly aligned and not getting ahead of themselves - that we are in rebuild mode, we aren’t quite “there” yet to be just rolling on and winning finals/flags and we need a year to take our medicine, rebuild by putting another year into the kids before we start a bona fide challenge.
You know, exactly what everyone on this forum has been calling for for years.
The team that the entire footy world was expecting to finally be good after 15 years of nothing was playing the team that was expected to finally be bad after 15 years of dominance.
And by half time, all fans knew that nothing was changing any time soon for either club
Absolutely pathetic. Where is the pride in yourself to do something like this? It’s such a slap in the face to your teammates who actually care and to all the supporters who support the club
Cornes didn’t like it then you had fcks like Damo,■■■■,Sam piling on him saying that’s it ok for players to joke and smile with their oponents after a loss
There had to be an element to looking exactly at what we were going to be putting forth list wise and logic suggesting we might drop back
Hooker done, who not only kicked 33 goals himself but allowed for easier transition for 2MP and Jones + bringing ball to ground for smalls
A lot was going to be asked of Jones becoming the main kpf & then 3rd talls either still learning/not up to it as fwds (Francis) or very early in development (yet to debut - Baldwin / Reid etc)
Hurley’s return also a big unknown and he was hardly a reliable fwd anyway
Walla (34 goals in 2021) uncertainty too, at the end of the year who could have said he might have made it back at all. And rumoured discussions with coach about pulling the pin.
67 goals and a heap of experience potentially gone.
Our trade targets didn’t eventuate either both on experienced small fwd & kpf front either. So youth/lesser lights it was going to be.
There was no way we could have confidence that the fwd line was going to be able to put out better output than it had in 2021 and as such might drop back. I think people were kidding themselves to think otherwise.
What should have had confidence in was the game style and cohesion we had built in 2021 not only remaining but improving.
Have all the injuries to key players unsettled things too much? It’s a big factor no doubt.
We may have over corrected/over complicated things defence wise as a result of the pumping in the finals also. There has to be more going on than just key personnel being out.
The lack of energy/effort is inexcusable. That’s what all of us as fans expect as a minimum non negotiable.
Would love executing basic skills/ decision making as a non negotiable also. That part frustrates me to no end. Its not just EFC though.
Jye has played 20 games, it’s up to the leadership group to show that’s unacceptable and have a word to him.
Unfortunately, our captain frequently does the same thing. Shakka mate she’ll be right.
No issue whatsoever that footy is a job to many footballers, just have some respect towards us moron supporters that keep turning up every week to watch that ■■■■■. At least act like it means something.
I know a lot of people hate seeing players having a laugh and a yarn after the game.
Im probably 50-50 on it.
I watched Caldwell having a laugh (with clearly one of his mates), and thought to myself…. “He clearly hasn’t been at Essendon very long, but he’s gonna learn very quickly not to do that”.
The Captain clearly needs to come down hard on this imo. Personally I’d be ordering the players off the ground, as it’s not the time and place to have a catch up with the other team…… especially after an embarrassing loss.
What is there to laugh about when you have just embarrassed yourself with your performance and what is there to laugh about when you club has just had its season ended?
