As to Sheedy shooting through at the wrong time, Lindsay Fox’s birthday celebrations and the guest list would have been set in stone long ago and within a window when Covid restrictions were eased.
The issue is whether Sheedy should have backed out at the last minute. IDK when the yacht sailed, but I bet Geraldine would not have wanted to cancel ( she’s overdue for reward)
Because James Hird was promised the job
So Hird might be upset at the idea he was strung along in a pre ordained coaching process!?
Lol.
Welcome to 2010.
You realise that’s not a positive in a process that everyone now wants to portray as disingenuous!?
What’s the position of Lewis, Walls etc the external people on the coaching selection panel if this is all true?
They’re content to be used as pawns for optics to cover our sham process?
They thought it would be legit but are now under nda?
Any word from Hird, or is it speculation?
Yet again, I simply don’t believe you.
I don’t even want the insurance money.
I just want the car out of my life.
I have no problems believing that Sheedy promised Hird that he had Sheedy’s full support for the position. And i also have no problems believing that Sheedy told Hird something like ‘nah, don’t worry about the rest of the board, I’ll sort it out’, and Hird may even have believed him. But jeez, you’d think Hird of all people would know not to put too much trust in footy administrators when they promise things they don’t have the power to deliver.
There’s no claim in the article that the job was promised to Hird, although it does claim that he was promised he’d get a fair hearing, and that Barham and Sheedy told him that the two of them would be doing the selection. If THAT’S true then it’s a big deal - partly cos if so, Hird would have been flat-out lied to, and partly cos holy crap, who thinks THAT’S a way to choose a new coach?
Frankly, this article looks to me like Sheedy knows Hird is ■■■■■■ at him for how it all went down and Sheedy’s talking to Robinson is trying to get his side of the story out there.
But, it does make Hird sound a little sketchy in this too. The three of them together, constructing this plan. Little iffy.
Essendon is surely a complex beast driven a lot by personalities rather than process. But I would say that it would not be alone among football clubs in this regard.
As to “the process” for selection of the coach, the truth is out there. But I doubt we will ever know. Likely there was no process and it was just the coach that the strongest faction wanted. Outcome doesn’t seem to bad anyway. It is all a bit disillusioning.
The maddest dog did not deserve this sham.

What plan?
Further, it’s understood Hird and Barham had spoken several weeks previously and that Hird was assured he would be legitimately considered for the job.
No promises from Barham, but an assurance that he and Sheedy would be picking the coach.
So, Hird went for an interview.
If this is to be relied on (and that’s a big ‘if’, to be fair), it sounds like Hird asked Barham what the process was going to be, and was told that Barham and Sheedy would pick the new guy. Hird comes across here as if he actually had to be convinced to apply, which is kinda in keeping with his behaviour before he actually interviewed when he was talking about his family, business, his age etc as reasons he was reluctant to jump back into it. The three certainly weren’t planning anything together. Sheedy was in Hird’s ear I suspect, but Barham and Sheeds look to have been on opposite sides all along. Team Clarko vs Team Hird. And when Clarko subbed himself off, Team Clarko became Team Scott.
IMO, just the fact that Barham went up to Hird and said what he said, is a little sketchy. If Sheedy is this upset, it says to me that more was promised.
Just my opinion.
Lol and as usual with this club, team process finished a distant last
A lot of this is fairly easily clarified. Who did the panel recommend, and what were the particulars of that recommendation?
There are big inconsistencies in all sides of this scenario as it stands.
The notion that Hird was promised the job is as reprehensible as the notion that Barham over rode the process.
I wouldnt be surprised if it’s just Sheedy getting his wires crossed. He was annoyed that the panel was making the decision, Barham clarified that the board still makes the decision. All true, but of course the board choose the outcome recommended by the panel.
Also, once again, it’s diabolical that this is being spread to media. Are we trying to force Scott to walk out or something?
These fckwits never learn. Get rid of all of them. Constant bullshit in the background , constant factional infighting. They’ll burn the entire club down in their selfish hubris and assume we’ll all be grateful for it.
Not us, but the media would love it if Scott quit. Robbo and Sheedy are too self-absorbed to read the room.
