Something seriously wrong with the club (Part 3, August 2022)

Ahh I got you now. Fully agree

As hard as it was to do I forensically watched the game against St. Kilda to see where we went so wrong. I watched each contest again and again focusing on all players to see why we suck so much. The whole experience took 5 hours and OMG. I encourage everyone who can do this with foxtel or kayo to do it. Unfortunately even the players I like and have high hopes for are some of the worst offenders. Basically Hep add Merrett are the only players whose effort was anywhere near acceptable and in fact virtually flawless. Unfortunately Hep doesn’t deserve a game on form which makes it all more depressing. So maybe after all I don’t recommend people do it. Everyone else needs a rocket or the cannon and Scott absolutely has a massive responsibility for the effort. I can’t accept it as only being the players

Wasn’t his direct kick to an opponent featured in Herb’s video this week?

The board would have written the scope of the review, given that I doubt they even looked at the workings of the board.

I’ve allways suspected that because we fired the guy doing the review(Thorburn) did we even receive a completed review? He was knee deep in the review then announced as CEO presumably to keep going and implement any outcomes. We then fired him the next day, I doubt we rang him up and said, I know we fired you but can you keep working on the review so we can present to the board.

I suspect the offical report never came or if it did was missing big chunks because the lead was no longer participating.

Hence all we’ve heard is a few themes, being spend more on development and recruiting. We haven’t heard about the specifics because the club never got all the detail.

Naturally the club can’t admit this.

you wouldn’t wipe your arse with the paper from any review written by those ■■■■■■■ clowns.

The large problem with our playing group is we have 3 types of players.

  1. players with limited talent, and give honest amounts of effort.

  2. players with talent, and give minimal effort.

  3. Zac Merrett

We have far too many of number 1 on the list…… and Number 2 ‘s are just content being AFL footballers raking in high 6 figure incomes.

Went back and found an article, note the specific words “draft” and “preliminary”. Why would you include that language

The final draft report was completed by Ernst & Young and former chief executive Thorburn, who has since cut ties with the club after his controversial church views were exposed.

“One area that the Board is focusing on as a priority, consistent with the preliminary findings from the EY External Review, is our football department. Our players deserve every opportunity to excel both on and off the field and further urgent investment is required now for the club to achieve the success we all desire,” Barham said.

We need a review into the review!

This adds another layer to the immense ■■■■ up that was hiring Thorburn to be CEO

The club can pump as much money as it likes into development programs and player resourcing as it likes.

But if a) you’re recruiting players with limited talent, or b) the players aren’t willing to work hard to improve……. It’s absolutely pointless.

The club is wasting millions on these players who aren’t that interested in winning a premiership.

Fixed.

Wouldn’t both those points fall on recruiting

Apart from anything else, Thorburn had interviewed staff and players ,including the W players.
They had been encouraged to speak frankly, with their anonymity protected.
Barham then appoints him as CEO, the very person who knows exactly who said what.

After the banking royal commission and the culture it exposed at NAB under Thorburn as CEO, he shouldn’t be anywhere near the joint in the first place.

I think the coaches have copped plenty of the blame. They seem to be the only ones fired (albeit way later than they should’ve been) based on poor performance.

This was also a Sheedy attitude to a degree. At the beginning he said something to the effect of the supporters have to learn how to support the club.

Supporters are a clubs greatest asset. Unquestionably. But that doesn’t mean supporters frustrations and groundswell of ‘noise’ doesn’t at times hinder a clubs progress.

Unfortunately, weak and itchy Boards whose skills give way to their ‘supporters’ tendencies during difficult times, give way to the noise created over time by supporters and the media. They capitulate more often than not in the end and tend to make poor decisions. Time, after time. It has a toll on the clubs on field fortunes and often comes at great financial cost.

It’s not the supporters fault at all. Unfortunately Boards are ‘fans’ at heart and under stress get emotional too and act irrationally. Just like we all do. And that’s when bad decisions are made.
