Something seriously wrong with the club (Part 4, August 2024)

All this talk about when we’ll make finals or win a final, or are we good enough/bad enough to finish x position on the ladder to get draft picks - it’s all NOISE. Bottom line is, and has always been “development” which has been wrong at this club for so long.
There isn’t much difference between pick 1 and 10, and it depends on what position you’re looking for.
The club or coaches haven’t been able to look forward enough and read the trends or develop a strategy like Geelong, Sydney or Collingwood have. So the picks have been wrong/untimely. And the injury management has also been terrible, meaning individual and team development has been haphazard at best.
It looks like this is all starting to change and team development is going to accelerate this year.

Did people seriously think we were going to go winless this season?

Because they already had some foundations.
Our list has far too many holes and we need access to the best picks.
The worst thing possible is us finishing 9th to 12th this year.
As to the youngest team rhetoric, young players can be crap too so no good being the youngest team if most of your youth are only B or C graders. We are not blessed with a lot of genuinely talented youth

I’ll be very surprised if we win more then 5 games I don’t think our list is completely void of talent like most on here claim yes we need more but there is also some pieces of the puzzle already there to build on.

There is but not enough and that’s the issue.

Agree hopefully the next 3 drafts we can do that. with some of the talent we already have and if we can nail the picks and develop well we wont be at the bottom of the ladder for long imo

Absolutely no one is saying we should be bottom for a long time. Most are saying just this year and next year. Load up at the draft and have a fire sale

Those blokes on 5-6 year contracts need to be turfed

Fk me, we win one game in an absolute horrifically skilled match and all of a sudden there is some risk we are going to win ~10 games this year?

That effort we put up last night probably gets beaten 8-9 times out of 10. We were bad, Port were worse.

We aren’t going to win more than 6 games this season.

Yeah, but as has been stated a hundred times……… we have seen this before. We’ve have been this bad in the past, and still ended up finishing 12th or 13th.

Where exactly does the improvement come from across the year to get to the 10-11 wins needed to finish 12-13?

Because our current game style and skill level isn’t winning that many games.

You just know that wherever we finish will be one or two picks away from a generational talent

The same place it always does.

Ridley, Merrett, parish, Shiel, Draper, Langford, mcgrath, Martin, Durham, Gresham, Redman, Jones, Perkins and even McKay,.

That’s about 70% of the group that is actually on the field.

Or did you think that stringer, Heppell and Kelly were the difference that was single-handedly keeping us mid table?!

I think it’s more a case of we’ve gone nowhere while teams around us have actually gotten better.

For example, I reckon NM and WCE would be seeing us as very much beatable (i.e. as in, all things being equal, they’d expect to win) this year.

But you are right. If that core group of players fires to maximum capacity for a while, we might snag a few more wins. I just don’t see it as very likely.

Imagine if Merret was reading this thread he would be shaking his head at some of the comments that winning is bad

Nino will be begging for a full scale rebuild in a few weeks, after we’ve chipped away at him

Unclutch your pearls grandma.

Finishing 8th to 12th continuously IS bad

I dont see it at max we wil win no more then 5 games

Probably jag a win against Tigers and WC apart from those teams cant see where other wins come from unless they pull an upset

Pies will most likely flog us on Anzac Day

what are hypotheticals
