Something seriously wrong with the club (Part 4, August 2024)

Unfortunately for Essendon it’s not even midnight yet.
Dawn is an eternity away.

We’re are Darren Burgess and a decent coach away from turning this ■■■■ show around, I’m liking the direction of our list and upcoming draft position though.

You know these injuries.

Got me thinking

They have hit our top liners.

But surely if there was something wrong with week to week prep it would hit the vfl squad equally as bad?

I mean vfl isn’t the same intensity as an afl game because it’s the fittest guys out there who have done the preseasons. But surely you train for the same?

All the guys out injured have done multiple preseasons. Thats also what differentiates the afl guys from our vfl players.

To me that means we are simply training too hard in preseason?

Essendon tends too as a team start pretty well. Thats another symptom of doing a good preseason?

I thought we were getting rid of everyone as we speak . You can’t become the new North Melbourne with old Essendon people.

I disagree.

I’ve reached the stage of the season where I officially don’t care. Later than many but still earlier than some.

The only thing I ask is that we surely cannot suffer through this season to date only to get a couple more cheap meaningless wins in this part of the season to jeopardise our draft/trade position come the end of the year?

It’s exactly what this rabble will do though.

I’m just hoping Hird gets another “gig” somewhere and I’ll have another team to take an interest in….

Most teams around us will pinch a win or two on the run home. We aren’t unique.

I’ve made this observation a few times, but of the team that played the Dogs in the 2021 final, 14 are still here. We still have kept largely the same core group of players on the list and have instead played around with the fringes

Nah they don’t like this being pointed out though, they’ll deflect or insult you because they don’t like the facts, or just not reply at all.

Most of the list turnover under Brad has been players who never even played a senior game or maybe got one or two games, with a couple of exceptions.

Compared to Rutten who had similar list turnover (maybe slightly more in number), but this actually included senior core players either going elsewhere or retiring.

In another thread I went through every teams total trades, delistings and retirements. We are bang on average over the past 2 years. Iirc, Geelong had turned over more players than us

Is that surprising? 2021 was supposed to be the start of a transition in itself - Wright, Caldwell, Perkins, Cox, Jones, Durham and Draper were just establishing themselves on the list.

More the point that it was the team in Rutten’s first year, not Brad. So Brad hasn’t really turned over the core list

I had a look at Hawthorn’s round 23 2021 team, and by my count, only 8 players are still on Hawks list

The club has continued to prioritise the draft in list management since that point.

Not sure I understand the point you’re making. But another way of saying it, is Rutten did more turning over of the list than Scott

So much dead wood on the list. Hopefully Rosa clears it out. It’s early but players like Clarke, Johnson even ADW give me confidence this guy can draft. Unfortunately too early to really judge properly.

I’m at that point where I don’t get any joy watching this club. It’s been like this for years, recurring injuries, coaching changes galore, consistent batterings by good teams. Yet we keep telling ourselves it will all turn around eventually. We have senior players still letting us down, ■■■■ gameplans, our players are poorly conditioned and our skills are still crappola. Weekends literally ruined just by watching us play, I’m just tired of it.

Don’t get me wrong I like our youthful players but it’s not enough. I remember liking our youthful players back in 2017 when they were coming through and look at them now. I might take a break from this club, if anything blitz has kept me going with supporting the team. I’ll defs keep an eye on blitz though and hope for updates where we start showing a semblance of a good footy team.

List should be renamed to ‘Players that have torn Essendon a new a-hole in 2025.
