Something seriously wrong with the club (Part 4, August 2024)

Yeah, I always found the criticism of Rutten’s press conferences and talks a bit weird. Sure he wasn’t a great public speaker but at the end of the day I thought we showed some good structure at times in the year we made finals. For memory we never lost by more than 8 or 9 goals whilst we won at least 3 games by 10 goals plus and even the games we lost I felt plenty of them we were within a kick or two and right in it. Ultimately it got worse the year after and I felt he never had the full support of the board and the club knifed him in the hope of getting Clarkson

We should have a $ warchest in 2-3 years

Rutten was a potato who was able to make finals with just 11 wins (we actually only needed 10 that year - weird season).

Our percentage was strong but we beat up on the bottom 4 (6 of our 11 wins) and only had one win against a top 8 side (Dogs, who got us back in finals).

He’d lost the players by the end of his second year and would have NFI how do handle our current injury list.

SillyBillys Silly idea to make Essington = EssenDone!

Step 1: Clean out all our Assistant coaches except Gia

Step 2: Approach Luke Hodge and make him an offer he cant refuse to coach our backline.

Step 3: approach Matt Boyd and put him as head of development in the reserves or forward line

Step 4: make Goldy our ruck coach full time

Step 5 sack our whole fitness department.

Step 6: Give Darren Burgess a blanck cheque and woo him over to our club.

If that fails, hunt Andrew Russell to see if he will make a return.

EFC is cursed

Curious… why does he get a pass?

Because he is gud

Not cursed at all. We’ve had some bad luck with injuries and high draft picks in compromised drafts. However, it’s just a really poorly run club with too much external interference and that has persisted with incompetent people in key roles for decades. Culture, sentiment and living in the past has also lead to many terrible decisions with drafting and board, coaching and football admin roles. Basically they’ve sucked on every level.

It doesn’t help that a lot fans aren’t great judges and continually get their false hopes up. This list has been dog sht forever and if anything has actually over performed at times. The wheels were always going to fall off eventually. Hopefully, it forces their hand. We really need to nail the next two drafts.

If there’s one thing you can do Adrian is to get this started. This current group of administrators is the worst we’ve had

Nah this is so good. Finally I can see the light. We need talent and this is the only way to get it. Anyone who disagrees just wants to be happy finishing 11th.

I don’t believe Essendon will ever build a strong culture under barham, vozzo, Scott and McPherson.

I’ve said it jokingly before but now I seriously believe we have nothing to lose by having an exorcism at the hangar.

and when the exorcism doesn’t work, we burn it down, pave it over and install a parking ticket machine

The players knifed him.

They gave up halfway through the season. Some of these games at the end of the season was an utter disgrace. Not sure how they could look at themselves in the mirror as a professional athlete, when they were deliberately trying to get the coach sacked.

It’s why I have zero loyalty or tolerance for that senior group. Absolute prima-donnas.

Players may have knifed him, but like most years, Rutten copped a bunch of injuries to senior players.

Iirc - Langford and Snelling injured round 1. Cox and Smith injured shortly after. Parish not long after that.

Stringer got his contract and went back to his old ways too

It was mainly the lack of remorse for Rutten in the week from hell, when the club was going after Clarkson.

That interview from Merrett and Heppell was just disgraceful. I lost a lot of respect for both of them, that week.

I dont get our supporters. Weve been crying out for a proper rebuild for years. Well this is what it looks like. You have to be sh-thouse if you want the best talent. If you win these needless games, supporters will complain anyway. The supporter base just refuses to admit that were not that good.

There is something wrong with the club, but theres something wrong with our supporters as well. Decades of compounding frustration has turned alot of us all bitter and twisted, where we cant see the club for where its at. Overly reactionary to a bad loss and out for blood.

If this supporter base gets another coach sacked, were going to be doing this dance again in another 3-4 years.
