the frustration is that we had to be dragged kicking and screaming into a rebuild by circumstances, not by making the proactive decision to do it
the club just reacts to whatever is happening in the present moment. there’s no long term view.

This has been the long term view since Brad was appointed though. This is proactive, and the fans cant fking stand it.
12 debutants this year has had our supporters excited, but then turn around and complain that they cant understand why were losing games. What do they think was going to happen?
Theres already people in the Oskar Smartt thread calling for the cannon after 1 game…
Not for the first two years, they were all in on the current squad. They reset this at the end of last year imo.
If only.
Correct. We have been crying for a proper rebuild for close to 2 decades and what frustrates me is that we still aren’t doing it by choice. Our hand is being forced and we have been dragged kicking and screaming still. We have had numerous chances over the years to do a proper rebuild and we have instead chosen to take short cuts and half measures
I just know we won’t be trading senior players out this year.
I wouldn’t be disappointed to see another season ravaged by injury, so that we can get 2 seasons in a row in the bottom 3.
Just wait till we package up pick 5 & 6 for Sean Darcy
What interview was that?
Merrett on AFL360.
Heppell at a press conference at the club
Interesting, I can’t remember. What did they say? Did they have a go at Rutten?
I must admit I was a bit surprised we didn’t go harder leading into Scott’s second year. We had seen the players were not up to it in his first year (when he was assessing the list) but we stuck with them for another year and got the same result.
At that point it seems some may have realised, not sure all did though including the coach, as it was only really injuries that kept forcing their hand.
Don’t give me that rubbish about the plan being Brad Scott to rebuild. What absolute trash.
“We believe a more experienced coach can get more out of this list”
That’s what Barham said when we axed Rutten. Fark off with the plan being a rebuild.
I mean anyone who actually watches us play could’ve told you aeons ago that our team has zero components to a premiership side, and this is purely circumstantial that we are looking at a “proper rebuild”
If our team was fully fit we’d still be rolling out the same plodders and I’m not sure Scott/Essendon has the stones to make the hard choices and remove half the list ala Hawthorn.
This is not a re build it’s the performance of an average list in a year with above average injuries. A re build would be a deliberate strategy to change over the list and develop young players. No re build here.
The list turnover has been very consistent since Brads come in. And the list remains extremely young. They havent completely gutted the list in one swoop, and thats probably to prevent the club from having a lack of leadership such as North Melbourne in Brads last year, or the Dees in the Mark Neeld era. But its most certainly been happening.
The main thing im frustrated with though, is the supporter base and its lack of commitment to the process. A massive chunk of the supporters would rather self-sabotage than commit to watching the team play poorly for a prolonged period.
Weve got a team full of kids with less than a seasons worth of games under their belt, and the supporters refuse to accept that theyre going to play some trash footy at times. The alternative of coasting to a mid table finish sits more comfortably for people.
The similarities of this supporter base to fark carlton supporters is wild. We are more than happy to have a laugh at their expense, and then our own supporters carry on in the same manner. Wildly reactionary, overly emotional. The refusal to admit that their club isnt special anymore.
Our next win is 9 months away.
The Lid Off thread is that way mate.
Last night was diabolical. If we can’t demonstrate a discernible game plan in the remaining 6 weeks then fans have every right to be angry. Hopefully it’s a blip and last week’s game is more typical of Brad’s plan.
Yeah. It was one of the worst games ive ever seen in my life. I hear you.
Brad mentioned in the presser that the game plans going to need to simplified, due to the amount of kids and mid season draftees in the team. Theres really no alternative at this point.
The rebuild should have started year one
But no Essendon just pretend the list is good enough to win a final……oh wait you’ve been doing that for 20 years
It wasn’t but the fools on the board thought Brad was the man to get a finals win…not a premiership that’s what they aimed for.
He failed so it’s also on the board .
He’s said numerous times that the kids would not have got a look in unless for injuries.
Just think of that year 3 finish 11 and go nowhere playing the same players that failed in year 1 + 2 that’s what he was doing this year.
He’s a fraud along with the board
I wish I wasn’t out of likes because this deserved one
