But that is just not true. We would have lost every game if this was the case. 43 players were on the list, so in your view only 8.6 are “up to it”. Here is the Player list, so which 8.6 are ?
1 McGrath, Andrew
2 Draper, Sam
3 Parish, Darcy
4 Langford, Kyle
5 Tsatas, Elijah
6 Caldwell, Jye
7 Merrett, Zachary
8 Hobbs, Ben
9 Shiel, Dylan
10 Weideman, Sam
11 Gresham, Jade
12 Setterfield, Will
13 Cox, Nikolas
14 Ridley, Jordan
15 Laverde, Jayden
16 Perkins, Archie
17 Goldstein, Todd
18 Hayes, Lewis
19 Hind, Nick
20 Wright, Peter
21 Heppell, Dyson
22 Durham, Sam
23 Jones, Harrison
24 Bryan, Nick
25 Stringer, Jake
26 Baldwin, Kaine
27 Redman, Mason
28 Duursma, Xavier
29 Kelly, Jake
30 Caddy, Nate
31 Reid, Zach
32 McKay, Ben
33 Davey, Alwyn
34 Lual, Luamon
35 Guelfi, Matt
36 Davey, Jayden
37 Martin, Nicholas
38 Roberts, Archie
39 Visentini, Vigo R
40 Wanganeen, Tex R
41 El-Hawli, Saad R
47 Menzie, Jye R
49 Hunter, Jaiden R
If I exclude the players that I think should not be on the list, and even exclude the Players that have not got a senior game as yet, and are “up to it”, I get these 25, and maybe some of the boys I excluded may make it with a game or two (Hayes, Visenti and El-Hawli, and perhaps J Davey)

We won 11 games and beat 5 of the Teams above us, which was not good enough, but not completely hopeless. If we had better Team selection, some sort of plan for defence, and perhaps a farking game plan it could have been better. A lot of that is on the Coaches, and I would probably get rid of 80% of them, as they seem to be not “up to it”
When performing these assessments, the season needs to be broken down into 4 game segments, because when you play a team is more important than where they finish.
We beat Hawthorn in round 1. They lost their first 5 games.
This is just one example and not specific to Essendon either.
True, and maybe you can argue that those 5 teams were having off days, and we were just lucky!
Or maybe we just had 11 off days and we are really unbeatable when we are on our game.
And as good as Hawthorn are playing, I reckon the Doggies will eat them in a final. Reminded me of Sheeds first season in 1981, as we looked unbeatable in the last 16 rounds, but lost the elimination final.
My point is that looking at a ladder at the end of the year and saying we beat 5 teams above us is relative. Would we have beaten Hawthorn or Bulldogs in round 23?
Dockers - depends if home or away, my money would be on freo either way
Pies - if they get their injured players back, most likely pies.
Bulldogs - probably odds with the dogs.
Hawks - hard to say, most would probably tip hawks at this stage
Giants - giants definitely would be favorites
Seriously hard to see us beating more than 2 of those sides next season.
