Wait, is there something wrong with this football club?
So from vague memory, after 2018 and the club and worsfold realising that defensive actions and set ups were absolutely ■■■■, they go out and supposedly poach the mastermind of richmonds system in rutten. The club then jumps at shadows after this and creates a succession plan with rutten cos well supposedly his defensive nous is just that valuable.
They then sack him 2 years in cos they still couldn’t defend for ■■■■ after him being at the club for 4 years, and bring in scott.
he’s been given more autonomy, more funding and resources, had more of a focus on afl lifestyle and doing what you should, finally got a decent fitness staff, and 4 years in the defensive actions that were ■■■■ 10 years ago, is actually worse now than back then.
That is actually a hell of an effort, to supposedly focus on a key area of the game, and get it so ■■■■■■■ monumentally wrong and continually ■■■■ it up over an over again, it actually takes , i donno some sort of skill to make the worst possible decisions over and over again to get here.

Brads a manager. He’s not a coach. There’s no strategy out there, nothing is improving on the field other than the list is looking better.
I assume Solomon is a spud too? He’s been around forever. Recycled coaches just never get success at second clubs. We need a coach with energy and ideas.

Not for the first time in recent years, the stadium emptied out at 3qtr time.
Instead of just a few people like me departing at 3qtr time when we’re losing, it now looks like full time outside the stadium, Essendon supporters everywhere.
It’s sad what this club has degenerated to, and it’s boring, and predictable to watch everyweek.
You make the effort to attend and get absolute zero value on the field in return, you don’t get to cheer, you don’t get emotionally invested, no entertainment value at all.
Unless you like watching opposition clubs conduct training sessions.
Despite my pessimism and negativity I somehow rouse myself to attend everyweek in Melbourne but I have zero appetite to watch us v Bulldogs in a few weeks time, what to watch the Dogs kick 15 goals in a half?

I hope it doesnt get lost in the reporting on this game that we should have been belted by 100+ if the Hawks hadn’t missed a ton of absolute sitters.
It’s the games like these that make me feel dead inside. We get a few of them every year. Its enough to make you wonder if you’re ever going to see a great essendon team again given its always the same issues. They must be so deeply embedded into the culture of the place that multiple head coaches, coaching teams, footy department setups etc have not made even an iota of difference.
Sliced open all game due to lack of structure and/or lack of application.
Not one leader stepping into the breach, rallying the troops and saying “not today” to stem the tide during that pile on in the second quarter.
Not even the slightest hint of a change in game plan after half time when it was clear that the Hawks were kicking and running rings around our defensive zone.
As always, we’ll get a big pile on this week from the fans and the media, and we’ll get the usual empty platitudes from the players about how it wasnt good enough, its not what we stand for, blah blah blah. And there probably will be a reaction next week, but a month or so from now we’ll get another game just like this… because nothing’s changed.
Nothing ever changes.

I would have loved to be in that presidents get together tonight, to see their faces when the Essendon fans started leaving.
I think it literally only changes when they take the head off the snake remove all the senior players that have allowed the culture to fester and replace the coach and start from the ground up
