Something seriously wrong with the club (Part 4, August 2024)

Do something welsh you used car salesman

step two is burn the hanger to the ground and pave over the land to serve as an urbn surf overflow car park

Our two pet greyhounds have come from GAP, which is right across from Urban Surf. I would rather The Hangar be turned into a dog adoption agency as those two have bought me much more joy than the club has.

McKay took a mark today!!!

Confession time. I haven’t watched a single live minute of a match this year. It is just way too depressing, and it’s very hard to see any light at the end of the tunnel. Even our good players would struggle to get into any other AFL side.

The really damning thing, is talking to my boss who is an Essendon supporter, he encouraged his children to follow another team, because he knew his young children would be disappointed if ever going to the footy. The Dons are losing a generation of supporters.

At least parents are doing the right thing by their kids.

So there’s that.

My son is constantly getting teased at school for being an Essendon supporter, always coming home say “we suck” etc… and wanting to swap teams. It’s getting hard to keep saying no because there’s no positives to show him.

Nah, your boss is just a soft ■■■■. Plenty of kids support the Bombers, just rock up to an Auskick clinic and you’ll see that.

Distinct lack of resilience building amongst the latest generation of parents.

Might as well condition the kids to despair because the overall situation is bleak

Not many kids are choosing the bombers is more the point.

I think the danger with Essendon, is because they are so bad, even if we do have a good player, they will likely be head hunted because of the lack of success. It’s why I think the draft I think has been a bit of a failure. It is so compromised that a top team can pick the bones out of the other clubs, and stay up there, regardless of the draft.
In saying that though, our recruiting has been horrible, so dug our own grave to some extent.

Kids will turn back to Essendon in droves when we start winning or hand out a free pack of footy cards at a game.

Sorry to hear that, hopefully Caddy, Kako and Robey can provide some highlights for the little guy.

I believe we tried that in the late 2000s when we rehomed Murphy.

Honest question though, when do you think we will be competitive again? Our seniors really aren’t much chop, and the promising young players are at least 2-3 years away from what I see to hitting their peak. That’s assuming they keep developing as well. My guess it will be like 4 years before we can even think of being in the top half.

What I can’t quite work out is, with all their elite training facilities they have built, other clubs seem to develop their talent much quicker. It baffles me. Am I wrong in that perception?

I get it. I was trying to get my two young’uns excited last night ahead of today’s game, they are somewhat causal footy fans, more into basketball. “Who are you looking forward to seeing play tomorrow?” “Stringer”… Uhm, no. “Sam Draper”, sorry. “Kako”, nope. How about Zach Merrett? “Didn’t he try to leave?” Yep. We eventually settled on Caddy and Archie Roberts. They knew we were going to “get smashed” but still had a good day at the footy. Lots of food helps!

Glad to hear at least they had a good day. Excellent job by your good self.

Been asking that same question for 20 years…

The answer would be somewhere along the lines of “don’t hold your breath”.

While we continue to ignore the modern requirements for speed, skill, footy smarts and running capacity we will continue to lag behind badly.

Watching other teams, it’s possible we’re not even playing the same sport.

The only thing keeping the club relevant is us, the faithful, and the club has nothing but contempt for us.
