Songs you haven't heard in years (Part 1)

This song has been in my head a lot for the last few days. And I feel like I’m hearing it just as incidental music a lot more. I’m certainly not seeking it out.

I think you’re confusing Big World with his live album…Joe Jackson Live 1980/86.

PS: it’s no surprise that you like Big World more than Body and Soul.

For Body and Soul, he did away with guitars completely and had a lot of brass included…he toured with a 8/9 piece band from memory.

Then for Big World, he stripped it back to the basics…guitars, drums and some keyboard.

Had to google thinking the worst. Was surprised more Bond villain than a hot mess.

Nope… Big World definitely performed live in front of audience, sans clapping/cheering etc.

Yeah…but that clip is from the live album.

I really hadn’t heard this song since my childhood. Maybe my mind had remixed it and gave it more ooomph. Now it sounds flat and lifeless.

Ok…time to disappoint you again

I’ve now listened to four Tim Buckley albums (including Greetings From L.A.) and cannot see what the fuss is about.

Not one of them jumped out and grabbed me…and if you think that Greetings From L.A. is one of the greatest albums of all time…I can only suggest that you need to listen to sh*tload more music.

Music’s just something on in the background while you’re drinking beer in the shed, to drown out the noise of livestock from the adjacent properties

Have you given the new Steven Wilson album The Overview a go yet?

Back to a proggy sort of sound after his recent dalliances with electronica.

Taken a few spins but it’s starting to sink in now. Not his best, not his worst. That opinion is always liable to change though…

I’ve bookmarked on one of my lists that it was due out…I’ll give it a whirl…thanks

I will agree that Greetings from LA was not great, and certainly he was by that time on the downward drug slide. His first, simply called Tim Buckley, was an excellent folk-rock album. As he went on he moved more towards jazz, and Happy Sad is absolutely brilliant: there are 6 songs and four of them are outstanding. I’ve been listening to Strange Feelin’ and Buzzin’ Fly on pretty high rotation for 50 years and I still love them; Dream Letter is lovely, and Sing a Song for You is melodious and lovely.

Another excellent album is Blue Afternoon.

He had a great voice. Very strong, and an excellent range. It’s a tragedy that he was drawn into the drug trap.

Greetings From LA was reputed to be the perfect album to make love to.

I gave it a go one night, but the hole was way too small.
