Sorry for not attending earlier — review beating the Saints in 2022

Many people in here genuinely thought he was the best match up for King hahaha

Martin, Archie, Durham and Langford together are the guys who can really take us forward, the ability to mark around the ground is one of our biggest weaknesses and these guys can all do it.
And all of them are good runners

We looked infinitely better with the extra running back and Hepp on the wing.

If Hepp can find a 10 gamer to play on each week we will be right!
But seriously, he was much improved and less costly last night.

Well played team.

Enter THE Langford next week. I have been looking forward to his return all year. Reckon it’ll add another missing dimension.

I said after the Hawthorn game that thye have no excuses as they know how to play hard only to see them lose every game since.

I’ll say it again they have no excuse for not playing hard. They showed in this game that they can.

What are the chances of them playing like that 2 or 3 weeks in a row?

I’m torn on this.

I see that argument for him, but equally, development can include (when injury lists permit) going down a level and being able to work on specific things. He’s had 5-6 consecutive games at AFL level, so those development areas should be far clearer to both he and the coaches now.

The other positive from the younger fellsa stepping up is that it shows the older fellas arent guarrented a game going forward.

Competition for spots is good.

It demands attention when a 110kg monster climbs up onto the shoulders of a bloke 195 cm tall to take a mark, but Sammy is the one who appears to be inspirational leader of the playing group. He seems to be a larger than life character. That spark is something that the other leadership group players do not have, and probably never had.
To me it just comes across that way.

We looked so much better with Hind, McGrath and Mass in defence. Just looked quicker at ground level and attacked very well with the ball.

Need to replicate this speed and creativity in the forward line.

Going on Ruttens presser he sounded like he agrees with you

We won last night because St Kilda played like we usually do.

On Ham - I want him to succeed but he is a spectator. On the field he watches, cheers the players on (a couple of fist pumps again last night) and occasionally gets involved with a panicky handball. Watch him in the background he literally jogs around. How is it possible other players come into the side after a very short time e.g. Martin and Mass and make a bigger impact? Could it be he is just not good enough?

Don’t trust one thing this embarrassing football club shows for the rest of the season.

When the season was on the line, every facet of the club failed. Conditioning, availability, game plan and effort were all the worst in the comp.

Now that there is nothing to play for and the opposition take us lightly, we start showing up to games.

It’s been happening for a decade and won’t change until Xavier and co are gone…

On reflection really impressed with Shiel. I absolutely stick the boots into him but he’s shown great character in coming back from some pretty terrible form. That repeat effort where he basically had three involvements along the wing to the goal was superb.

lel Richo said it so it must be gospel…. Cmon man…

There’s more than one way to develop a kid. sending him back to the two’s to work on his game rather than stinking it up against a bloke who would’ve monstered him is a perfectly reasonable cause of action to further his development, especially after playing the last 7 games straight.
Fully expect he’ll be back in the senior side again shortly to finish the year, and if not, then absolutely question why.

I was very glad to see us attack the game last night. The style of play we used seemed closer to the DNA of Essendon that the ■■■■■ we have been serving up all year.
Very glad to see us absorb that Saints lift in the third quarter and then return serve.

Having Jones and Stringer back in the forward line is a bonus. They are serious threats and therefore all the opposition backs don’t just have to stand on 2MP to stop us from scoring. We still seem to operate better with that sort of chaos ball entry.

The forward line did a MUCH better defensively. Or should I say the whole team did. Still, the effort to tackle and harass was poles apart from what we have served up this year.

Of course, just loving Sammy D when he is on fire. There is something just special about the way he plays. Having said that, Phillip’s played just as well.

Still think we were down a tall in the backline. Could have used someone of Stewart’s height and build.

I still think we are just indiscriminately bombing the ball into the forward line too much. Jones leads well, as does Stringer. Not sure why this continues.
