and the great gary lyon thanks. but its not about who said it, its probably a collective view from the outside that we may as well keep playing him
look im not too bothered by it in reality and im of the opinion he’s done very little. but yeah, i reckon the more opportunities he gets the better ATM. games now will be invaluable to the long term
Adding Mass and McGrath, while being less tall and Hind continuing his form rediscovery, meant our drive from the HB line went through the roof. Helped that Membrey when forward was a perfect match for Kelly. But Ridley was also showing far more drive and run than earlier in the season. Beyond the selections there was clearly changes in instructions. More run, more movement, more switching, more dare. And better manning up. Our defensive unit was unrecognisable from other games this season.
Up forward Stringer found his second/third game back mojo, and was defending and dangerous. Jones competed so hard defensively (once followed the play right down deep into D50 because he refused to stop chasing), kicked goals, yet IMO was still a little off it. More to come there. Perkins and Hobbs were great.
I’ve questioned Guelfi in the past, but I do think he’s finding his feet as a defensive forward. Probably still depth, and I wouldn’t trust him anywhere else on the field, but has had some quality games in the role this year.
Durham and Martin both make a big difference. Martin is already quality, Durham has aspects of his game to improve. But he’s only had one preseason, so he should improve.
Ham helped, but really needs to be upgraded. Not strong enough 1-on-1, not good enough disposal. Is making good running patterns though. Langford or Cox if fit would take his spot.
We still have the issue how to fit the midfielders in if they’re all fit. Shiel has stepped up in Parish’s absence. McGrath back frees up a bit more.
Oh, and I thought Merrett was way off with his disposal, if not presence. Probably got more of it than I noticed, but seemed to regularly take the wrong option or miss targets.
Great win, love the progression of Caldwell, Perkins and Hobbs.
Saw RoamingBrian for the first time in years…omg how fING embarassing was that! Some kind of desperado paparazzi.
Sorry if it’s the wrong place for the comment, I couldn’t find a BT is a fING idiot thread.
You should have just stopped at the end of the bold section. No one is forgetting anything, no one is getting carried away, and no one is pretending anything. Just enjoy the win, there will be plenty more pain to go around for everyone.
Biggest change for me was the kick out defence set up. No zone, complete man on man which saints didn’t have a response to. Then our kick outs had a more aggressive action including playing on from the first mark and less down the line predictability.
Is it sustainable, I doubt it, teams will pick up on the man on man action and counter it, but at least it was a change up.
Blitz voting is interesting. I wonder what proportion are giving Shiel bog who were watching on tv compared to those at the ground.
I thought he was good but at the ground thought there were others who had a bigger impact so maybe I missed a bit of his extra grunt.
