“That the Essendon board had no idea what was going on with the football department’s “supplements program” is undisputed.”
From the Australian Institute of Company Directors’ interview with Lindsay Tanner. Words are the article’s writer, not Tanner’s. Can’t find any follow up comment from Tanner.
Sorry they knew… that statement is just a load of garbage & if they didn’t know well they should have all supported the players, ( & Hird ,Thompson, Corcoran & Reid) before falling on their swords and taking responsibility …as ultimately what goes on in the club is their responsibility & they all nicked off before we could dispute their undisputed lack of knowledge!! & left others holding the bag …I find that sort of thing gutless & very un-Essendon!
How is it that Evans was being offered to buy into Metabolic pharmaceuticals who were the AOD9604 manufacturer then?
He apparently chose not to despite the program with the players going ahead.
The president of the board knew exactly what was going on. Whether he was keeping that quiet & the other board members didn’t know unsure.
But unquestionably the president knew, as did the CEO. And between those two ■■■■ covering galore happened including removing documents after AD tipped them off IMO & dumping entire responsibility effectively on Hird in line with the AFL plan to ping support staff & get players off.
And they walked out scott free bar Evans health taking a turn. Diddums. Guilt clearly got to him.
I really hope Jackson Taylor gets the chance to call up witnesses & put them in the box.
Maybe David Evans knew but even then I doubt it. They were all too busy “planning” for the future and putting their faith in the CEO than actually knowing what was going on. I met many of the Board of that era at Coterie functions and was unimpressed, especially by Evans.
I have been on a number of Boards and it is easy to get fooled by the Managment. A number of friends were on a Hospital Board when babies were dying, and none of them knew what was happening as the Medical Director kept them in the dark. They should have known and were rightly held to account and sacked; doesn’t bring the babies back though, and in Bombers case seem applies, as the Board is responsible for everything that happens at a Company or a Club.
Evans was well known in business circles for never taking responsibility for anything when I heard he was our president I was not impressed & he proved to be just what they all said he was …funny how the big end of town covers for each other though not a word said against him other than around water coolers & coffee machines
How it usually works is, whatever they have on each other makes and keeps a tight knit circle. Tight lipped and backing each other to the hilt regardless. Rarely taking responsibility for anything. Always on the look out for a clean skin.
Not unlike Judges and Magistrates, often with their heads in the clouds and totally disconnected with what is going on a ground level. Above accountability and responsibility.
IAAF being asked why it does not release its scientific papers to support its new rules on testosterone levels in females. IIRC the earlier rules were successfully challenged in CAS.
WADA need have no fear, its rules require that decisions on inclusion in its banned list cannot be challenged. So much for the burden of proof.
But could WADA be challenged for breaching its own rules, which require that a substance or method must meet two of three criteria ( health, performance enhancement, spirit of sport)? Or could the AFL be challenged domestically on those grounds?
Evans knew. There is a meeting in 2012 at his office where Dank gave a sales pitch re AOD. Both Evans and Hird declined to invest.
At the time Hird and Evans were close. A bit hard to think that Evans had no idea of anything.
Knowing about an AOD investment is a huge leap to the actions that Dank took.
Seems to me that Dank had lots of credibility and he was believed to be upfront and honest. Look at these guys working in Banks etc, we all assumed them to be " Honest Bankers".
Yes, how times have changed. Or, have they. There have always been people who have pushed the equation. Greed and power now are endemic and addictive and its hunger endless. When is enough, enough, never.
The top 5% (or less) have access to powerful connections (insider information which the other 95% do not have access to unless they have the connections and CAN AFFORD TO PAY FOR IT.) The rest save and work and create a nest egg that is the dream. As time passes it is becoming more a dream than a reality.
On MMM today James Brayshaw stated that James Hird should not bag David Evans as he was the one man that tried to help him out of his saga difficulties. He said James owed David !
Obviously he bouight all of Vlad’s crap.
It was horrfic to hear Brayshaw, Eddie, Purple and the rest bending over backwards to say Evans deserved respect for what he tried to do whilst James and co. deserved everything they got !
