Sorry Saga - “It’s actually quite funny people thinking they know more than they actually do”

Ok. Why?

A $10,000 fine is that like a parking ticket in AFL circles

I’m guessing for not knowing a player’s whereabouts ? We got done a year or two ago didn’t we?

Because those clubs displayed good governance.

ASADA snitches on the clubs to the AFL, AFL levies the fine. Can be for as little as the club lodging the data a day late. Just about every club has been dobbed in over the years. Not on the players, who I think have an app for logging.

Doesn’t the AFL have oversight over all AFL Clubs? Isn’t the AFL responsible for ensuring that all clubs are compliant to the AFL rules on governance, anti-doping, etc.? Hasn’t the AFL got its own anti-doping policy which covers all the Clubs and, as such, any breaches that occur could be seen as bringing the game into disrepute? Who regulates the regulator?

I’m not scrolling through, has anyone replied?

I have done a quick run through the file list on the ASADA site, but could not identify any relevant files- not surprising as the ASADA file listing continues to ignore the requirements of the Senate Order. For instance there are no ADRVP files listed.
You might want to double check the list.
Curiously, while the listing goes back a few years, there is no listing for 2012. That is a public disclosure requirement, as distinct from FOI covered information.

Just re hashing known things back & forth AFAICT,… I’m assuming for newcomers??

Maybe Big Al or someone here all the time could do a Weekly or Monthly Bullet Point “New Stuff” type post for those that don’t need to catch up on the story?

So you think someone should take the time and effort to type up a list of developments just for the sake of people who CGAF enough about the biggest stitch up in Australian history to be bothered scrolling and reading for themselves?

Yup.

If there’s any NEW stuff, why not?

I don’t need to read the same posts stating the same facts and events I read a dozen times each 5 years ago and a dozen times since again,… so why would I?

I am very interested in any new developments or facts or info though,… but certainly haven’t got the time, patience or inclination to pan through truckloads of already know that yester-gravel seeking out those flakes.

Like I say, I’m not knocking it,… anyone new to it or seeking to become more/better informed about the shitfest should read every word & ask every question,… and thank god for those that will tell them down to every shittie detail, … but, as I’ve said before, another thread in here for any “New Developments” would be fkn boss.

Its more like having a few complex algorithms which analyse a range of input and analytical data from a sample or process at micro second speeds - generally these multiple tests are performed by scientists and take weeks to finalise and report.

From there, it will alarm any anomalies based on that data - which would then flag a more thorough investigation by human intervention.

Hardly concerning, multiple industries are using it across multiple platforms - this is another use or opportunity which is seen as an advantage.

Hang on, if it is out of season, they are on holidays and the players are NOT playing or competing, surely, the banned list really doesn’t apply, does it?

I think WADA have become like speed cameras and are looking at ways of improving their income strain.

Thanks for the information. Probably the best known example of what you say is the BOM. They use complex algorithms to predict weather based on what is known (historical data), input from satellites etc. Not sure what the success rate is??

The calculation/analysis is certainly accelerated but the algorithms are written by people, maintained by people and the red flags are supervised by people. Given the history of WADA (and by association ASADA), their lack of scientific rigor and transparency in the production of the banned List, with governance and integrity failures, would athletes trust such a tool in the hands of these buffoons.

Subject to testing year round if a listed player at any level. Some drugs banned in and out of competition, some will show up at different times of the day. Blog on ASADA site on whereabouts and fines provides an explanation.
There are stories of athletes going to remote locations where no WADA accredited testing is possible.

Good get. The question then beckons as to whether the review reports actually exist. He may have compiled them and they may be deemed “for internal purposes only” and so are not obliged to be published externally. Given the history I doubt the relevant Sports Minister would want to know about it, whether Liberal or Labor.

It would be prudent to alert the cross bench that ASADA has history (McDevitt) in misleading the Senators and now his successor has potentially dabbled in the same tactic. His reviews and the data used to formulate the review reports, together with the listing of the mistakes and whether those mistakes had any influence over decisions made to prosecute a potentially biased case against the Essendon 34, need to be independently scrutinised.

Some clubs have been fined for failing to update the players addresses. Maybe ASADA testers rocked up to the wrong address. In this case Carlton got the biggest fine- $10k, others $5k.

In regards to rehashing (and not so much aimed at you but just the occasional blitzers who come in with nothing more to add than ‘you guys still doing talking about this’ sort of crap), to me it’s more a case of re-examining.

The saga played out in a way where the context of many events was framed by what had immediately preceded it. With the saga now finished (in terms of AFL/ASADA investigation and sanctions to club/personnel/players) there is benefit in re-examining without the constraints of the linear timeline.
Along the way people pick up new bits of information or re-contextualise events which may well mean nothing but sometimes might lead them to dig a little further in another direction.

I see your point about a new developments type thread but it would be a lot of labour and I don’t think that it’s the best use of time or effort. While I get there are people who have followed along and are tired of it now but would like to keep abreast of new stuff, without having to wade through the rest, that’s not where energy should be focused for anyone who’s seeking to fix the injustice.
That aside, I would love if all of Bruce’s stuff got posted as that can be a gold mine of data.

I think last year ASADA would keep track of player’s social media accounts and caught them out if they were posting end of season trip photos from somewhere but hadn’t updated their whereabouts to match.
