Still will always amaze me how much energy is needed to go 100km up.
And also how it’s only 20km up and we’re dead.
Based on the starship used for flight 11 today, the numbers below are calculated for the upcoming new generation Starship which will produce -1.2 times more than current ship.
~61.5 Terra joules Or ~134.5 Gigawatts
About the same as 85 modern nuclear power plants produce running concurrently.
Elon will be ■■■■■■.
Elon will be rapt.
Jarrod’s nomination was pulled by Trump when he fell out with Elon.
Elon and Dufy had a punch on in White House.
And Jarrod doesn’t want traditional space companies involved going forward as they want cost plus contracting that delivers little and slowly.
Also Jarrod and Elon are good friends with Jarrod’s 3 flights to space on space X rockets.
Elon killed his nomination in the first place.
100% not the case. Trump dumped Jarrod because of his association with Elon after their fallout.
Nice summary of lunar activities past, present and future with Simon Whistler. Love his style.
He feels like he’s holding in a burp ![]()
The launch has been delayed by at least a day due to weather conditions, but this is interesting. Mainly due to the unusual route being taken and it’s likely requirement for future , regular supply drops to support any manned landing on Mars.
This L2 holding point will require a gravity assist by slingshotting around earth before finally heading to Mars.
Will cost extra fuel which reduce payload mass that can be sent. There will definitely be a loss of fuel due to boil-off and likely the extra delta v requirements to reach mars.
Haven’t seen a full analysis of what it would cost in fuel and payload.
At a minimum, it won’t help with human flight due to the extra year in orbit and associated resources.
A few other thoughts.
This invented / discovered trajectory is really a cover for Blue Origin not meeting the original launch last year. There is no benefit for Escapade being launched now. Might as well wait for the next direct transit window end of 2026. Probably increases the risk instead of going direct.
SpaceX will have 7 launch pads operational for Starship in about 3 years. That’s 420 possible launches during 60 days of the 2028 direct transfer window. The possible number will only grow from there.
Take 3…
