If you ever need an example of how big space is. The fastest vehicle we have ever made takes 50 years to get 1 light day. Amazing!
I would have guessed that the planets wouldn’t fit in between the Earth and the Moon, and now I’m a little disappointed with this fact.
As of 2025, the total area of Saturn’s main ring system is approximately 45 billion square kilometers. This is nearly 80 to 90 times the surface area of Earth.
I haven’t checked if the above is the sum of the top and bottom areas (the area of the edges is very much inconsequential).
NASA budget to remain pretty much unchanged. Science missions saved.
Suppose to return mid February.
NASA is weighing whether it may need to call for an earlier end the SpaceX Crew-11 mission on the International Space Station after a “medical situation” occurred on Wednesday.
Artemis II Soon.
No earlier than Sat 7th Feb @1:45pm.
When do we land on the moon I’m guessing 2027 or 2028?
Will depend on how well this flight goes. My best guess will be sometime in 2029.
Hopefully we are still alive by then ![]()
What is the actually point of going to the moon again, its just dust ?
To set up a base for going to Mars I say
It’s a stepping stone for improving technology for grander feats later on.
Also for the Pollies, but that’s the window dressing bit.
Drill baby drill ?
Helium 3 is really the only resource that would be cost effective or desired regardless of cost to return from the moon. Proposed best fuel for nuclear fusion reactors.
Confirmed that Crew-11 will return in the next few days.
Ill astronaut is stable and deemed not to be an emergency. With limited medical testing equipment on the ISS, it was thought to bring him/her back to do desired tests would be best.
1st time in Spaceflight history a mission has been cut short due to a medical reason.
Progress is made at the forefront of science. Those scientists eventually work their way back to ‘local’ workforces bringing that knowledge to the general public.
We are still using a lot of tech first used in the Apollo missions.
Looks like an astronaut on the ISS is sick and they are bringing one of the crews back early.
Read an article the other day about massive He3 reserves found in Minnesota, comparable to levels found on the moon
Bodes well for science, not so much the environment once we start digging it up again
Don’t forget the military reasons reasons given all the satellites up there.
