Spec/changes for the real magpies (2023)

Does anyone really think we will make more than 1 or 2 changes?
Have we done that at all this year, without suspension and injuries?

It just shows we have noone else of any quality for his role

nah that club is finished.

No worries 6, to be fair, the whole performance was pretty tragic.

Kind of annoying how much will be made of the teams coming off a bye this week given that nobody has won when versing a non-bye team.

Will give them added focus/incentive

So assuming BZT is out injured and Draper/Shiel don’t get up and no other injury surprises!

If Scott isn’t going to risk players then you’d think Draper & Shiel are very unlikely, and Zerk has to be in some doubt also. If thats the case Id like to see;-

Out: Kelly, BZT, Weideman, Snelling (SUB)
In: Hind, Baldwin, Voss (debut), Menzie

Laverde Baldwin McGrath
Redman Ridley Hind
Martin Stringer Durham
Guelfi Voss Menzie
Langford Wright Hobbs

Phillips Parish Merrett

Bench: Perkins Caldwell Heppell Bryan
SUB: Snelling

Stringer and Hobbs to rotate centre clearances should provide lots of grunt

Menzie should never been dropped out the 22. I was quite bemused we made our only genuine small forward the sub

Voss - simply must play! 2.4 and some didn’t make the distance BUT he does get the ball, tackle and is competitive. Weid on tbe other hand?

Would prefer Wanga as Sub.
To me Snelling & Guelfi are to similar and you can only afford to play one.

Really hope the selectors recognised our lack of run and dare off halfback without Hind on Saturday. Heck, even Markov gets a game at Collingwood for purely that reason and he wouldn’t be one of their top 25-30 players on the list. I’d like to see Snelling or Guelfi given the role of tagging Houston off half back. His kicking is first class.

These are the winter slog months now. Playing games in 11-12 degree temperatures with the deck either greasy or wet and with that cumulative physical effect of the season being felt in the body.

I do wonder how well our comparatively slighter, smaller framed guys will hold up over this next month or two where the hits sting you that bit more and a lack of strength over the ball or in the contest gets shown up more.

i think snelling’s gut running ability has been important to the structure and it’s letting us be flexible with how we use martin. Guelfi is struggling for form IMO and looked sore by the end on the weekend. I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing guelfi string a few games together in the vfl to find some touch.

i think pushing hepp up to a wing if we want to retain kelly should be looked at. Hepps form is much much better at the moment thn earlier in the year and he could actually help us at ground level contests a bit. then we get to bring in another runner for the backline rotation.

i am inclined to drop weed for a small and keep bryan and phillips but i’ll be suprised if scott sees it that way. i think he’s more likely to drop bryan.

out: weed guelfi
in: menzie mass - hind sub

(zerk might be injured so he’d be out for baldwin)

kelly Lav zerk
mcgrath rids redman

durham parish hepp
bryan merrett stringer#

martin# langford caldwell
perkins 2mp menzie

mass hobbs snelling flip - hind

i guess they could pull a surprise and pick tsatas for snelling i suppose .

Harsh drop IMO

Thinking on it this morning, i don’t see the point pf two rucks with wright back. It makes us slow. Add to that, menzie was on the ground longer than Bryan against freo and that’s coming on as sub near the end of the third.

Therefore, proposing we drop Bryan for Voss, which enables us to put Wright into the ruck and stillbe tall up front while also giving us more flex to move The Langford up the ground if needed.

Kelly for hind to get some speed back into defence

Snelling to sub

This is the one week we need to try and take advantage of Wright’s height in the forward line. Don’t want him spending time in the ruck. If Langford can play a similar role to what he played against Aliir last time we met, that will hold us in good stead.

Please just don’t pick Kelly. He tips the balance over in terms of us becoming too dour back there.
