Star Wars,Rise of Skywalker FULL SPOILERS!

I saw it for the second time yesterday. There are 3 or 4 times I get a lump in my throat. My 10 year old son cried when Han died.

I have many questions but this one random question bugs me.

When Rey was on Jakku scavenging, whilst cleaning parts she is transfixed by an old lady. She just stares at her before being interrupted.
Any idea who this is? Is it Maz in human form? her mother?

Caroline Wilson?

My lump in the throat moment is when Rey has the Force Senistive moment to stop Ren getting Luke’s lightsaber and you hear the Force Theme music, this was an epic moment

I think she was looking at her because the lady was doing the same thing she was doing, so maybe she was scared she would end up like the old lady just scavenging year after year.

I thought is was just emphasising that Rey had no friends on Jakku, even among her ā€˜coworkers’.

I went to see it with my 8 year old, took it for the fluff that it is, and enjoyed it.

It can all be tied together and explained very easily, according to my son at the time, its the force Dad, THE FORCE!!!

Now I know why Star Wars geeks treat it like a religion.

Finally got to see it yesterday and wasn’t dissapointed. On leaving the film I said to my mate, I have the same feeling as I’ve had after a 10 goal win against Carlton, a relaxed overjoyed relief.

If you haven’t seen it at IMAX, I must insist this is the only way to see this film. It was immense in every way. When the star destroyer was facing forward, it was like you could reach out an touch it. The quality of the sound and screen completely enveloped you as a viewer and you simply don’t notice any other patrons in the cinema as all your senses are taken up.

I can see Ivan’s point of view with his critique, and I agree, it was almost a play by play of A New Hope. But I think this was done on purpose, a history always repeats itself despite of lessons learnt. I also think Abrams was resetting the franchise for the fans after the abominations Lucas gave us. It was like he was saying, come back star wars fans, here is the movie you should have got, now lets take the next two into a new direction. Im pretty confident that the next two won’t be a Empire/Return of the Jedi clone.

Kylo R should have decapitated H Solo and booted his falling head at Chewbacca whilst shouting ā€œlaugh it up, Fuzzball!ā€

You MONSTER !

Third viewing today. Picking up little details that were missed previously! Starting to wonder if Rey is somehow Han and Leia’s daughter - twin of Ben/Kylo?

That would be taking the New Hope parallels to another level, how would Han and Leia be able to not know her/act like they don’t know her?

Ren is 29, Rey is 19

Had my second viewing today with my 12yo boy watching it for the first time.
Certainly enjoyed it more, and was far more forgiving of earlier perceived plot holes.

Anyone who does not enjoy it as a stand alone movie is difficult to please.
Something extra special about seeing it with your child.

On a side note.
Kudos to Reading Cinemas Epping for keeping their Gold Lounge prices at $20.
Very reasonable, and the food was decent also.
Village charge $40 !

ok, definitely not twin then

but could have been some ā€œwe thought she was deadā€ situation? sounds like she’s been separated from her family since she was reallllly little

Separated from Luke? Or just a force sensitive?

Great film, loved the start and finish - dragged a little in the middle.

Love the flashback at the start of the destroyed war machines

I am now convinced that Rey is from the Jedi school, that flashback of Kylo standing over her with a light saber and what looked like other Jedis? (not storm troopers) and then his reaction when told about her escaping with the droid - as if he knew exactly who she was. I think that flashback as a kid is her being taken to the school.

Loved Kylo - that voice, oh my. Really dark character and for a minute I got really excited expecting a dark theme - but then I remembered it was Disney and Star Wars. I think he was psyching out Hans in the middle, he was never going to relapse to his dad, he was playing the old embrace me and saber to the stomach game.

Loved the stormtrooperr defecting to the good side, couple of references to his up bringing and hope a film explores this in detail. A story around stealing kids and training to become a stormtrooper is super cool.

The battles and CGI was nicely balanced

Setting up for a decade of star wars films, if you can buy shares in Disney I would.

Finally, for a family themed franchise there is an awful lot of child displacement/murdering of civilians going on.

Separated from Luke? Or just a force sensitive?

Has to be some important character’s kid with the flashback of the ship departing when she was a kid. That or Luke found her and hid her when he discovered she was force sensitive before bugging out himself. The latter kind of feels unsatisfactory in connecting up plot lines though. Maybe one reason Luke took off is because Rey was an accidental kid of his and he had to hide them both separately to keep her safe. You just know it’s not going to play out that obviously though.

What if Leia had another kid after Han and her stopped getting along that Han didn’t know about? Or, she was the pregnancy he didn’t know about after having an argument and taking off and had to be hidden from Ren after he went mental and killed all the trainees? Fits in the Ren being all sour about his dad. Han abandons them when he’s a kid, contributes to his dark side leanings, etc. The ages would fit if there’s ten years difference. Ren is in his late teens at the time which would make Rey about 7 or 8 like the flask back scene. I’m thinking it’s this.

I saw it again last night and said exactly this to my wife.

I think she is Leias daughter, but not Han’s. Luke would’ve sensed the dark side in Ren very early on and him and Leia kept her secret from him in case Ren turned to the dark side.

After Ren killed all the young Jedi Luke was training Luke took Rey and dropped her off in Jakku. Meanwhile Luke had developed mind wiping powers and made Leia forget all about Rey to keep her away from Ren.

A few things popped up during the movie that made me think this.

  1. Leia and Rey had a very long embrace after Han’s death but it seemed more than just a comforting hug. It felt like Leia new something deep inside her that she knew Rey was her daughter.

  2. There was also a comment about how Rey started to see Han as a father figure. Whilst I don’t think Han is the father this comment kinda connects Rey and Leia.

Not sure when we’ll find out these answers. I think we’ll be waiting till ep 10

Not Jedis but the Knights of Ren.

Good point. By which we might have had time for another plot line to explain it. E.g, left field but something like Rey being some great grandchild of Sidious or something. Agree on the points about how she inexplicably fit in with Leia and co so well though. It certainly looks like some sort of homecoming. No doubt R2 knew the truth all along.

Plus there’s going to be a whole series of spin off movies. Disney have shifted the guy who coordinated all the links between the marvel films across to build the same style shared universe in the Star Wars films. Expect small hooks to be planted in each film so the other films can link into it. The old guy who had the map at the start of the film. Rey’s parents. Pilot guy’s backstory. There’s going to be a lot of interconnected themes.

From my point of view…the Jedi are evil.
