Tasmania - ANNOUNCED

I don’t know how people even come up with that assumption (the wind that is)

Did you see that game down there a couple of weeks ago where the kicks were doing U-turns?

But that’s in a partially grandstand stadium. It channels any wind into a corridor. Most new stadiums now are pretty sheltered.

Aren’t the AFL demanding a roofed stadium. They may be concerned that there are too many vegans in Tassie though.

Send the Kangas down, Clarkson would be at home

Hobart has less wind and rain than Melbourne over the afl season. And cleaner air.

Melbourne has a roofed stadium. I’m sure they would love a roof on the MCG too.

I think it’s multi faceted around supporter comfort leading to crowd size and the game itself.

But it comes down to setting an impossible task in the hope (was always going to happen) that they would fail.

AFL will focus its expansion on more economically viable growth areas.

I love the G experience, rain or shine. When did we become such weaklings? Kidding, I know when we became weaklings, but honestly I’d take the G over the Telstra Dome any day.

In any case, as has been pointed out it’s apparently fine for Tassie to pay millions to the Hawks to play on a school pitch in Launceston and North at Bellerive for many years, but if you want your own team you better build that Taylor Swift roof. AFL had their bluff called and hopefully it brings down another LNP phoney govt.

So… build a new stadium?

Nothing would make me more happy then to see this backfire on the AFL and blow up in their face :joy:

Why give another license when they don’t have a stadium in place idiots AFL

Again, it’s not the rain it’s the wind and the biting cold winters in Tassie. I encourage people to watch highlights of the game in Launceston early this year, it was terrible the ball was going 20m sideways, made the game unwatchable. Now imagine that but a stadium next to the water. I know for myself i prefer going to marvel in the heart of winter on a cold night than the mcg, it makes sense to make attendance and the tv product desirable to ensure the club is sustainable.

Yeah the lovely concrete wasteland Macquarie point currently is and has been for the past few decades.

Don’t think the AFL would be that concerned.

It’s on Tasmania Football Club and Tas Govt.

AFL would have stipulated before any submission, let alone granting the licence, that the submission must include this, this and this for it to even be considered. Which no doubt included stadium requirements.

It’s then up to TFC and govt to to meet the licensing requirements.

They may not care, but thats just further evidence of how inadequate the AFL (particularly the commission) is at playing the role of custodians/stewards of the actual sport of Australian Rules Football, as opposed to the soulless corporate entity that is the AFL.

There was an awesome concept put forward a few years back by the Mona group. Would be a reality right now with people swarming all over it as the Winterfeast and Dark ■■■■ crank up. What a shame.

Mt Wellington protects Hobart from a hell of a lot of wind and any modern stadium will be wraparound in any case. Funny how it’s fine and dandy to play Hawthorn games at the exposed Launceston dump though for the AwFuL. People will want to hammer Tassie over this, look to the Afl, LNP and some rich farks looking to get richer.

Even if Rockliff goes I’d back money to get this across the line.

I knpw they were exceptional circumstances but york park has hosted afl finals, albeit one wed like to forget.

I’m being hard on it but it’s clearly not to standard and the hypocrisy of the AFL in this is galaxy level. It’s not a one off in the NT.

Why didn’t it get up? Presumably lack of finance.

I was down there a few months ago. The area is certainly a complete wasteland. The stadium may not be to everyone’s taste but surely must be better than what’s there now.
