Just send north down there then we can stick to 18 clubs and it gets rid of a problem child club. The locals will adopt them as their own if not this generation future ones will.
If they are going to bring in a tassie team though they need to bring in a 20th team. That should be a team called Canberra Riverina.

The AFL have really stunk it up in Tas with their dogged pursuit of second NSW and Qld teams. I’d have thought a team there would have flourished and would have been financially successful ‘the pride of the apple Isle’.

Going with GWS & Gold coast first was on Vlads watch, so can’t really blame Gil. I think they have pumped so much into these teams, and now with Covid… Tas team might be delayed by 2/3 years. IMO
Its not so much gws and gc as its the riverina, tasmania and the NT which gets ignored at AFL level.
You can’t tell me that if your a kid playing out of say albury wodonga or even the ACT you somehow resonate with blacktown, penrith or homebush? (or a fan for that matter).

Didn’t Eddie say that Covid would delay a Tasmanian team by about 10 years? He knows everything, doesn’t he?
GWS have been around for a decade now, but they still feel fake to me, not least because of their ridiculously long winded name ( just drop the ‘Greater’ FFS).
It would mean much more to me as an Essendon supporter to watch us play against a Tasmanian team, knowing that they come from a traditional football state where people actually care.

Relocating a team isn’t a straight forward solution. The AWFUL would be better off establishing a stand alone club down there and folding a Melbourne side.

They deserve a team. You should take care of your own first. They should have had a team before GC and GWS.

$13.45 doesn’t get you much these days. Maybe 2 flat whites and a paper.
$8 million per year to Hawthorn & Norf? When do those contracts expire? Pull $4 mill from Norf and fair chance they fold.
Interesting squeeze play going on here. Not sure which side AFL will be on; they might quietly let Tas govt do the dirty work of putting the financial pressure on norf to get them to move south.
Norf could have moved but chose not to.
The sport isnt truly a national sport as there is not a Tassie side.

really hoping the jack jumpers takes off.
lots of kids follow NBA these days and local basketball is at a decent level.
I don’t really care too much about having a tassie team here anymore, obviously we were dudded when out behind suns and GwS.
but getting a mix of BBL games, the odd A league game, NBL side and a couple of AFL matches is probably enough.
biggest issue is Essendon never send a Team down here for a preseason match.
AFL should rotate the big VIC clubs to play 1 Preseason match every year.
