Tasmania - stole GWS media guy and $1B

I appreciate the call back to 50 year old posts, and to answer the genuine question, no, they are not.

It turns out that waste and energy contractor Veolia have plans to build a thermal energy plant at Macquarie Point. It involves pumping 4,000 cubic metres – or 4 million litres – of seawater through the site every hour at peak times to help regulate temperatures in the precinct.

That’s a massive amount of water that will be pumped from the River Derwent through the site and back into the river. It’s astounding the Rockliff Government didn’t think to tell the public, or Parliament, about such a major part of the Macquarie Point project.

There are so many questions that need answering. Why haven’t Tasmanians been told about this major development? Why wasn’t Parliament? Where are the plans? Where will it be located on site? Is there a backup plan if it doesn’t go ahead? What will it cost? How is it being funded?

What is a ‘thermal energy plant’, exactly? All energy is thermal.

Fark Tassie, Give Frankston a team.

If we give Frankston a team do we have to move the thermal energy plant there too?

Nah, put it in Dingley, and hope it ignites methane leaking from the old tip.

Conversion to steam to power generators would be my understanding.

Photovoltaic and wind power?

My first thought was water to water heat pumps, à la the Sydney harbour pool but the flow rate quoted in the article seems mega.

Tassie already have their eyes on Bewick as per AFL Report

Any player is able to opt out of the group and instead choose to enter the open draft in 2027, with Tasmania able to put forward an extra year in a contract (making it an initial four-year deal) while offering further development within that.

It’d have to be a tempting offer for those guys. There’ll be far fewer established players standing between you and a best 23 spot and some additional career security while trying to find your feet.

Unless you Tassie born would anyone really want to go somewhere to be thumped every year for the first 4-5 years of your career.

They will be Gold Coast or GWS all over again not like Port or the Crows who were immediately competitive.

If you look at GC and GWS the foundation players had a very hard slog with no success for years. I wonder how many of them wished they had been drafted elsewhere.

Ideally you would want to go to Tassie in year 5 or 6 when they are starting to show something

I think also, there have been no players confirmed to sign on with Tassie yet. No senior coach confirmed. I don’t see it being an attractive offer this early.
